So I I've been looking at Asus c90. It has the 8600m GT and a Intel Core 2 Duo Conroe E6320 1.86 GHz 1066FSB 4M.

The question that I want to ask people is: How well do you think the upgradeable part of this laptop will become in the future. Will the parts indeed be upgradeable - (Video card - Processor - Memory) And how much can I rely on the fact that they WILL be upgradeable (IF they will...for sure)

Next, I know the Conroe is a desktop processor, and have gotten many answers from people, but how does this E6320 1.86 Compare, If I were to run any new games - Unreal 3 / Crysis.

If the processor and video card currently would work fine, AND it would be upgradeable. Then I think I might have found myself a new laptop.

(Also looked at F8, but obviously there isnt much out on it.)

The E6300 is pretty powerful when it's compared to the Mobile processors and if you overclock it....

Have you looked at the Compal IFL90 (Sager NP2090) ? It's similar to the G1s, but with much better battery life. The C90 get's pretty abysmal battery life, so if that's a concern I'd go for the Compal. However, the C90 is pretty much guaranteed to be upgradeable, probably up to a mid-end Nvidia 9m series (eventually), and the memory and processor are just as upgradeable as a desktop, since it's using the Conroe chipset.

I actually think I found posts the explain my question, but thanks for the answer nonetheless :). Curious :What is overclocking? I know the 3dpcmark clocking and stuff, but overclocking.

Overclocking the CPU is increasing the base speed of the CPU (1.86GHz) to a higher frequency. This can be done by increasing the CPU Multiplier, increasing the voltage going through the CPU, and a few other ways.

It'll run hotter, suck up my battery, and may void your warranty.

So, with that being said- I am not big on battery life because I'm not a HUGE traveler, ( i was actualyl going to get a form factor PC ) But then I saw this. And it actually matches me pretty well. Don't know if I should wait for the 8800 though, I mean I could wait, and then upgrade in a couple years, or get 8600m GT and upgrade in a few years. I don't know when the 8800 comes out though, so....I don't know whether to wait or not.

Does everyone hate the c90 or something? Seems like i'm missing something bad about it...

there is nothing bad about it. everyone here seems to think they can predit what will happen to the c90 in terms of heat noise and battery life. its all heresay because nobody has seen it.

Well it is also a pretty bold prediction to say that there is nothing wrong with it. It is possible that it is perfect, like you said nobody has really seen an end-user unit. But not being critical is how you lose your money. If you think it is perfect and it isn't (by a shot) then you are out almost 1900 dollars (for a well equiped machine); however if you expect it to be flawed and then make your decision based on what those flaws may be, and then it isn't then you come out on top. So it is better as a consumer to assume that there will be certain cons for every pro.
However, I ordered the C90, I am excited about it. Asus seems to be fully behind this product as its new flagship.
About overclocking, the C90 does it in a way mojo didn't mention, it increases the FSB, because the Conroes in it are multiplier locked. (Core Clock = FSB/4; CPU speed=Core clock*multiplier) and in this case shouldn't void the warranty since Asus builds into it their own software to do it with. (There is a hot-key on the keyboard to run it in overclocked mode for chrissakes!!)
If you think this laptop is the one for you, then go for it. You may want to wait about a week for a review to come out, but I don't think there is realistically anything to be really scared about.

Everything I mostly understand, I just need to read a little bit more on the overclocking so I am more knowledgable on the subject. Maybe if there is a guide out there you can link to it? ATM i'll be searching for one anyway.

Thanks again, everyone out there at NBR, was very helpful and nice people to talk with.
