I just bought a N56VZ-RH71 and also got a 256gb samsung 840 pro to replace the main drive..I installed the ssd in the slot where the 7200rpm drive was...I put a windows 7 dvd in the drive and when i turn the computer on, I press "esc" to get a list of devices to boot from - but the list is empty and the only option is "go to setup" which takes me to BIOS. If i don't press "esc" during start-up the computer goes directly to BIOS. The bios recognizes the HD on the main bios screen, but gives me no options on the boot screen...any ideas?

Does the BIOS setup show your optical drive in the boot options? You can set the priority from there if it's listed.

No..even with the 7200rpm HD in it doesn't...but with the 7200RPM it does show an option to boot some kind of windows partition that has a reinstall on it, and it also has an option to add a boot drive

It's not like any bios I have ever seen where you can just rearrange the boot devices.
