I feel like this should be here somewhere, but all I can find is uncertainty...

Is there a way to turn off the side-LED lights when running plugged in (g51vx-x1a)?

    I can't find a setting in Power4 Gear Hybrid.

Does Direct Console have it? (If yes, can I Have a link?)

Not wanting to manually unplug them.

    Thx bYe.

There is no way to shut them off unless you unplug the power cord.

That's what I've found by searching, but isn't that unlikely? It seems like there would have to be some switch that tells the computer to disable the side LEDS, doesn't it?

Someone said in another topic about this OLED thing... It was the component in the G50's responsible to control the lights, but Asus took it away from the G51.. Thats why we cant control the lights anymore =/

You could physically disable the wires if it bothers you that much.

The RX05 really isn't distracting. Just three solid bars of white plus the logo. The reseller versions might be more distracting, though.

yea the blue lights are cool and all but when taking notes in PPT and the lights are turned off for the smartboards, my laptop can get a lil too distracting which is why i make sure that its not facing anyone...

yeah...the x1a/x2a/a1's side lights are a bit much. the logo light and line below it are just fine...it's the LOOK AT ME side LEDs that are much. Don't like the idea of heading in to a starbucks to do some work on the road, dressed in professional shirt/tie, then sending everyone into epileptic shock when i get my un-professional-looking notebook out. at least the lights don't blink.

The Republic of Gamers logo itself wouldn't attract that much attention, but it's more than that.

Maybe someone, somewhere, someday, will figure out how to just..turn them off... (gazes into the stars outside window, longingly).

Make a switch for it. You can pick up the parts from RadioShack for less than $4.

Somewhat off topic, but does the RX05 have white LEDs whereas the x1a/x2a/a1 have blue ones? because my RX05 has white lights, but I keep seeing people mention that their RX05s have blue LEDs

You are correct. As far as I know the RX05 only comes with white lights.

I'd use electrician's tape. It's a better match for the color.

Does anyone knows if the G51VX-RX05 has any extra USB port free inside it?

The side lights(or any led) doesn't cause a disturbance in my class, in fact I've been trying to attract a female classmate with my lights on, hoping to hypnotize her with the beauty of my g51(no luck), unfortunately IMO so far at school it's great for comparing e-peen power with the other techheads
