I recently picked up a second-hand notebook I am trying to revitalise. It is a peculiar machine with low specs and there seems to be no information whatsoever about it, no reviews, no tech data, nothing. The model is F452E, possibly sold only in Australia and maybe Malaysia.

I have run into a strange problem while trying to install 64-bit Win 7. The notebook has no DVD so I am installing from a flash drive. I have upgraded the BIOS to the latest version available on Asus support but I can't get the install to work. It starts out okay but then I get the dreaded error about some drivers not being found. When I choose the option to browse for them, I cannot see the USB drive, only two partitions on the hard drive (C: and X: . What seems to be happening is that the Win 7 installer does not see the USB ports after the installation starts.

I have tried replugging the flash drive but that makes no difference. I upgraded the BIOS for USB 3 support because the only ports are USB 3 and some things I read suggested that might be the problem. The strange thing, which I don't understand, is that I can install Win 10 without any problem and I can also install Win 7 from the same flash drive on a different computer. Only the combination of the Asus notebook and Win 7 does not work.

If anyone can shed some light on this I would be very grateful. At the moment I am stumped. I can get Win 10 to work, but Win 7 is the OS I want on this machine. There has to be some issue between the Win 7 installer and this particular model (I have seen comments elsewhere) but I can't figure it out.

The reason that you cannot install it from the USB flash drive is that Windows 7 doesn't have drivers for USB 3.0 so that's why is not working. So the way to do it to inject the USB 3.0 drivers into the ISO and then install it.

Since asking my original question I have moved a little further. I discovered a setting I had previously overlooked to disable USB 3 which allowed me to install the OS. Everything is working fine now with the ports functioning as USB 2. Now my question is where I can find a USB 3 driver that will work with my AMD Kabini mobo so I can get the full benefit of the USB ports.
