I'm really upset with Canadacomputers right now. I've trusted them for quite some time, and I still think they have the best prices around...but boy did they mess up and P%SS me off. I guess you can see where I'm going with this...
I just got back from their store where I found out that they made two giant mistakes. What bugs me most Is I called two separate locations before I posted anything, and they both confirmed over and over that the W5a they had IN STOCK was Black and that the W3V IN STOCK had a 100GB Hard drive. I made them both go and physically check for me more than once, because I knew this would be big news to us all and contrary to what we all expected...and they both came back and confirmed it. As you're probably guessing, the Canadian W5a is the WHITE ONE...even though itÂ’s still charcoal on their site, and the W3V has a 60GB hard drive, not the 100GB one. I just finished berating them both big time (I doubt they even care though) and their explanation today was...they claim they BOTH mixed up the W5 with the W3V, and that's why they thought it was black, and that head office made the Hard drive mistake, and they went along with that info because they couldn't open up the casing to actually confirm what was in there. I don't buy those excuses because I was very very specific in what I wanted confirmed both times...to be honest I THINK they were both just lazy or poorly trained and lied to me, but that's just me...I apologize to those who got their hopes up from my other now "inaccurate" post...in my defense I'm just a consumer like everyone else and I did do everything I could to confirm those facts before I posted them, I'm disappointed because this company has never done anything like this before and had earned my full trust, but It sure makes me look at them differently, I don't think I'll be plugging them in here as much anymore, that's for sure. I was wondering why Justin never chimed in on my first post about all this, now I know why, smart move []
I guess I was silly to think that Canada would get special treatment/ a better product line and more choices over the US. At least all the reviews and opinions coming from those W3V owners in the States will be accurate for the Canadian market/models as well.
Once again I'm sorry for posting that information, but at the time I did all I could to confirm it was as accurate as possible [8D]

I hated to say this (since I thought you had confirmed it).... but the Canadian stock is coming from the same place ours is. I asked Asus if there was some reason in these change of specs for Canada and they freaked out. Because they shipped a load of w5/v6/w3's up there and didn't have any remaining to double check. They said if that's what they got than it was a mistake.......
It's not you're fault...... it's barely the dealers in Canada's fault either. They probably didn't even have them at the time and had no idea what they were getting. Until I cracked ours open, I couldn't be 100% sure of what was in them....
But I will tell you that a couple of you Canadian's thought you were special there for a bit. []
Thanks,
Justin

i hope this doesnt mean that the W3V's bound for australia are going to be 60Gb.
The australian specs clearly say 100Gb and the main distributer synnex says it will be the charcoal colour scheme.
Heres hoping... -

Sorry to hear about the W5A screwup. I just called the North York store and when I asked him the colour, he told me it was WHITE. I then told him that the web site had it BLACK. He said that was a surprise and that was the reason everyone that called to ask about it was asking what the colour was.
So, which one did you buy? I'm looking at the W5A or the Sony S360. -
I visited Canada Computers today. The Mississauga location, while the Markham location is the primary "central" headquarters, the one next best to it, I would say is the Mississauga location. I visited them to compare the Sony Vaio S360 vs the Asus W3V.
They have, the Sony for 2540.00$ [Cad] which is ridiculous, considering Futureshop sells it for [as does Best Buy (canada) same company] $2399. The Asus W3V sells for $2199.99 and if you compare the system configurations there is a big wonder why anyone would get the Sony, while I like the design, the technology being used is older and less efficient/as powerful/fast. Simple fight between, the use of DDR333 [max mhz] vs DD2 533[not sure if its limited to that]. Radeon 9700 [not pro] vs X600 [both mobile versions.] Now, I used to have a Radeon 9700, which I modded to make it preform as a 9800, but thats not likely to happen with the mobile version.
I am still debating which laptop to get. The Sony s360 is more expensive, crappy warranty [1 year] and old tech. The Asus has better warranty, better tech, better video, cheaper price, but, I just seem to be unable to make the choice, simply because of my bad luck with these types of purchases.
If anyone knows a place to find a better price in Canada, please tell me. Also, if anyone has comments on either system, and has any benchmarks/screenshots, please post them. -
recently pccom.ca has got the w3v and the z71v, but the prices arent that much different.
CanadaSys still only have the z71v, nothing new yet. -

xrealx, a while back I too was trying to decide between the Sony S360P and the W3V among a few others. The Sony is one beautiful machine but the W3V seems to trump it in everyway possible. The W3V seems to be heavier, that's the only downside in my opinion...and some people swear by the Sony's LCD Xbrite screens...but that's just a matter of preference.
Anyways, I thought I'd point out that Canadacomputers has the Sony S360P priced at $2348...the last I checked Futureshop was at $2399 after the $100 off discount, which is still 50 bucks more. I don't know If that changes things for you??? Also, I don't see it listed anywhere on Futureshop's site that the Sony comes with Windows XP PRO, might want to clarify that, because Canadacomputers has the S360P version for that price which includes XP Pro.
Asus is having a showcase at the Canadacomputers in North York on the 27th & 28th incase you're interested. The North York location is one of their newest stores and is quite nice. Check out their contact section on the website for detailed directions.
Anyways, for what it's worth I'm going with the W3V...unless some other ASUS notebook at the showcase blows me away in person or changes my expectations. Good luck [8D] -
As for the price, that was what I saw at the Mississauga location when I arrived, and compared.
Something I have learned today is also interesting, I work at a computer store in Brampton, Ontario, about 10 minutes from Canada Computers in Mississauga, and after talking to my distributor that we use for Asus Laptops, it appears the the MSRP for the W3V is 2399.99$ and that the -wholesale price- is 2199$. Our cost at our store is 2199.99. This is what I will be paying, but there is an added twist, which I think shows how stores like Canada Computers are making their money.
They have become Asus [laptop specifically] Resellers, ABNR's as they state it, and due to this recieve/recieved 500 dollars rebate on the purchase of 2 laptops, any two, one of which was the W3V and the other White [which is white at that store] Model W5V? or whatever. They are selling it for the cost that I can get it, which they recieve from the same place, meaning they are using that rebate as a means of still making money.
They sell a lot of stuff, but I have serious doubts they have sold many Asus laptops, especially with the cost cautious laptops they keep in stock, they keep a single W3V instock, along with that white one with the cam some one was asking about [saying it was charcoal I believe]. They have both in stock, along with the s360 which I compared it with.
So, I will be buying from the distributor, and frmo what I can tell the "demand" is rising, and the "availibility" is not present. So this might increase the price or increase the use of the MSRP rather than selling at cost or just above it. So it might be prudent to decide quicker than waiting a month, simply due to demand and stock.
Thoughts.

Thanks for the heads up, but I believe they'll have a fair share of each ASUS model in stock by the time the showcase hits on the 27th and 28th. The North York location seems to have one of the best in-store selections/inventories of all their locations these days.
I hear what you're saying about the pricing...but I plan on buying during the showcase in a little over a week, there's no way they'll raise the price on the W3V $200 in just over a week...especially with the showcase so close. It's been priced like it is from day one...Asus itself lowered pricing on several ensemble models a few weeks back just as they arrived in the States...which puts the current pricing at Canada Computers right in line with what the new pricing in the States now reflects.
So does this mean you're going with the W3V over the Sony S360? Or are things still not final? [8D]

I hope they have the 2 models that I'm interested in:
1) W3V
2) Z63A -
So far no z63a models are out in Canada yet..
Or at least thats what a saleperson told me, and its not on any sites..
Canada Computers was the first one to have a w3v but Pacific Notebooks and PCCOM recently added the w3v. But the CC price is the cheapest..
Nothing from Canadasys yet.. -

Well that's easy..... Canada won't get anything before the US does... If the US dealers buy out the entire stock, Canada will have to wait for the second shipment. Even if they do get some of the first shipment, it'll take a couple weeks to get up there and start selling.
Thanks,
Justin

Yeah we seem to get shafted on lots of things up here, the warranty extension and rebates just to name a few...
I take it you meant W3V when you typed M3V right? Just checking...[8D] -
