Fellow Canadians and anyone else interested...

I just got off the phone with my local Canada Computers...they currently have 2 W5a's in stock and a whole shipment coming in tomorrow...but they said they only have the black/charcoal version, and not the white version that the US got. They had it pictured that way on their website the past few days, but I wanted to be absolutely sure before I said anything...so as of right now, we won't be getting the white version of the W5a, only the charcoal/black version. I guess that's good news to some and bad news to others.

ALSO, the Canadian spec W3V has a 100GB 5400 RPM hard drive!!! They seem to have one in stock...I'm going to go over there tomorrow to take a close look at it and see If anything else differs from the US spec/other versions. Here are the only other specs/things I can confirm right now...(Canadian)Asus W3V Pentium M-750 (1.86GB) 512MB DDR II 100GB ATI Radeon X600 DVD Dual+Dual Layer GB Lan 14" WXGA LCD 802.11g. So I guess we beat out Justin's 60GB US drive and Meijerns 80GB Dutch drive for top hard drive honors, go Canada!!!

It's about time Canada got these damn things over here and in stock...Now I'm only days away from making my final decision and buying one!!! [8D]

Out of curiousity is there any word on price for that W3?

EDIT: Holey crap i just checked the canadacomputers site its only 2,199!!!

    http://www.canadacomputers.com/cc/index.php?do=ShowProduct&cmd=pd&pid=007001&cid=896

I cant believe that price its really really really really good considering W1N sells for 2700 elsewhere.

Yeah, they told me $2199 for the W3V and $1898 for the W5A (Canadian funds)...but that could drop after the next shipment gets here. I don't think that figure is set in stone either if you know what I mean. I'd say It's about dead even with ordering from the US when all is said and done...without all the hassle and possible surprises...no offense Justin...I still say If you're in the US, Justin's your man for all things ASUS!

No, I think it makes it just about dead even, don't forget we have 15% sales tax over here...I've done all the calculations, and It's almost dead on, but we get the 100GB HD over your 60GB one!

I'm almost positive it's going to come with all the same things/goodies...but I'll find out for sure tomorrow and then let everyone know. Right now I'm pretty happy because It's looking like a very sweet deal for us Canadians...the icing on the cake would be If we end up with that Darker "uniform" version...I think I'd shed a tear of joy [8D]

THat's odd... for a W3v with a 60 GB hard drive, it says it's $2399 here on the West coast; that's a rip off for us!

I would SO order that W3V from Canada Computers instead...hehe

From my experience, no one can touch Canada Computers price wise on the things they do carry, the only downside is they don't always carry everything I'm looking for.

I'm really glad they got all these models in finally...I can't wait to go in there tomorrow and see them all in person for the 1st time!!! [8D]

You know Cal.. that is actually a possibility. I was wondering why there is no pic of the canadian W3V anywhere.. and it just hit me that we still don't know what it looks like. I mean, if it is going to look like the american version, it would be very easy to just put a pic of the american W3V with the canadian specs.

If the canadian version ends up with the darker casing, I will dance a dance of joy for you Cal. [:D]

    No joking.. [;)]

Thanks Cyber6, I'm crossing my fingers!

Kit25 what are you on? I already posted that CanadaComputers has the W5 for $1898, which is about 100 bucks cheaper than what you just listed Pacific Notebooks at (I just checked, It's $1998 at P/N). You're entitled to your opinion, but don't make things up and say they're a rip off and more expensive when in actual fact they're not and you're wrong! I'm not affiliated with Canada Computers in anyway, other than being a repeat customer. I posted that for everyone else's benefit, If It's cheaper somewhere else I'd like to know as well, but please make sure It's accurate. I've never found anywhere in Canada that can compete with Canada Computers pricing on the things that they do carry/have in stock.

If Pacific Notebooks is offering the white version W5a and someone wants to pay almost 100 bucks more for it, that's up to them. I guess the bottom line is all Canadians are very lucky to have a choice on which W5 version suits them best.

Anyone know If there's any difference between the W5Na and W5a or are they identical? [8D]

Wow, I thought the Asus W3v would be like, $2400 before taxes. I was kinda reluctant about getting it. If I can find it in a few months, I plan on picking this up at the end of summer before I start university. Does anyone know what the shipping price is at CanadaComputers if it was shipped to Montreal?

Sweet they have the W3 at a couple locations. Maybe I'll go on over there today just to scope it out since it's too rainy and crappy to work in the garden. [xx(]

When the W5a and W3v comes out from more resellers, I'm gonna check out CanadaSys, since I've done quite a bit of business with em, and they're great.

They can match prices too, but we'll see what happens..

And looks like I'm going to CC @ PMall later, forgot about the chaotic traffic...

Please please please don't write like that. It is SO hard to read and I'm SURE you must be smarter than you appear when you type like that. How hard is it to type out "you" and add an "e" to "hav"? Please, it's not cute. It just makes you look stupid and immature and then nobody will take you seriously. [V]

I know you're not writing an English exam, but why even write like that at all? I really don't understand it - it can't be that it's easier. I doubt it's just laziness. So why do it? I know you probably don't think it is relevant to your intelligence or maturity, but it is. Other people see it that way. If you don't care what they think, more power to you, but I still don't get it.

    Sorry for the off topic.

Kit, it is more than a suggestion, it is a friendly request. I am not making judgments about your intelligence, for me (and others) it is just way too hard to understand what you are trying to say. Example, I still don't know what this means: "n e ways". As Sencha says, it is not cute. Nothing to do about your intelligence... Just for the sake of clarity.

    C.

    P.S. I just got it "n e ways"= anyways .. Duh.. [:p]

Kit25, again, I disagree with you saying that Canada Computers was more expensive on the notebooks you listed. I've been following prices on the S5 and M5 for quite some time...and Pacific Notebooks hasn't been cheaper than Canada Computers on those models...especially when It comes to components for the barebone M5's...maybe they worked something out with you in person, but they haven't been listed cheaper online. (for example, P/N has the S5 listed at $1660, C/C had it for $1620 and for a while as low as $1590) If you've found them or other companies to have cheaper prices on certain items that's great, all I'm saying is from MY personal experience, every item I've ever looked into that Canada Computers actually carried or had in stock, was cheaper than anywhere else by quite a bit...and I know they'd price match as well, but I've never had to ask them too. Also, anywhere else that had prices within $10 or so of CC that I've seen isn't as well established or as "reliable" in MY opinion.

Anyways, I'm surprised no one in here commented on or seems to care one way or another that our W3V has better specs like the 100GB 5400 RPM hard drive. Is anyone out there happy that we have the charcoal W5a version as an option? (I was expecting more feedback on these things)

I got all tied up today and didn't make it to Canada Computers, did anyone else go? Anything to report at all? I'll definitely get over there tomorrow sometime...

Is this exact memory stick compatible with the W3V's empty slot?
    Kingmax 1024MB PC4300 DDR2 533MHz SO-DIMM
If someone bought 2 of these and installed them both, would they run in Dual channel mode?

    Thanks in advance [8D]

I do care Cal.. having the W3 with 100GB puts it again at the top of my list. I will have to set it up w/ dual boot and 100 gigs will play nicely with this. The fact that is 5400RPM is sweet too. In reality I find a 100GB/54RPM a lot more practical than a 60GB/7200RPM.

Re. Charcoal W5. Well, I am not very happy about this.. cause then, it is another option I will have to consider. I don't like white laptops (whisper - don't tell anyone).. so having the W5 in charcoal makes it a new contender to consider... Sigh.. back to the drawing board. [;)]

Coriolis, I'm guessing you went to the Pacific mall location? I don't like that Canada Computers location at all, way too cramped...plus I doubt they have any models on display in there, It's just way too small...and If It's actually busy, forgetaboutit!!!

I'll try my best to get over to the one near me tomorrow...It's one of their newer locations, very well lit, very spacious and normally they have all the models out.

No one else was able to view one anywhere in Canada? [8D]

I dont know if you guys know about this site but you might also want to try checking out www.computerlinksystems.com . At the time when i was helping my gf shop for her s5n they beat everyone else's price by $100+ (including canadacomputers). Their service isnt that bad either they're alot friendlier than anyone at canadacomputers or pacific notebooks. In fact i walked out of pacific notebooks because the rep was being such a jackass. Not to mention notebook outlet (www.notebookoutlet.ca which is also located in pacific mall).

I kept asking the guy at notebook outlet whether they carried the s5n and he kept telling me yes and when i asked him if he could give me a price he kept telling me to buy compaq or something. What an ass, i walked out of that one too. Stupid sales reps... (sense my bitterness?)

Anyway, point being, computerlinksystems isnt half bad for prices either and they're alot friendlier than pacific notebooks and canadacomputers. Lately their prices havent been that great for stuff in general but its worth checking out since it may suprise you.

Is computerlinksystems Canadian? I just looked up the W3V and W5 models and not only are they more expensive (especially if that's not Canadian funds) but also, the W3V they're selling is the 60GB model and not the 100GB one? So over all I wouldn't say that's such a great deal...but thanks for mentioning them, the more places I have to check, the better!!!

Anyways, can somebody answer my memory question?

Is this exact memory stick compatible with the W3V's empty slot?
    Kingmax 1024MB PC4300 DDR2 533MHz SO-DIMM
If someone bought 2 of these and installed them both, would they run in Dual channel mode?

I wrote a new Topic...check it out...I was given WRONG information...the bottom line is Canada Computers messed up big time and The Canadian W5a is WHITE not Charcoal, and the Canadian W3V has the 60GB hard drive, not the 100GB one!!!

Sorry for the mistake, I explanined it all in detail in the new Topic post I created.

No one can answer my memory question? That stick is at least compatible with the empty W3V slot right?

Technically that is the memory "that person" needs...... whether Kingmax's memory will work is another story... but I'm the odds are in your favor...

    Thanks,
