    Hi guys need some help.

I normally play LAN games with my friends over a adhoc network. Recently I have been unable to connect to or host any games despite being connected to the network. Ie game servers are not visible in-game, but according to network and sharing center i am connected just fine (i can see my friends' notebooks on the network)

I have tried reinstalling the wlan drivers as well as disabling my firewall but it doesnt see to do help at all. It is a little strange considering i never had a problem before. Any thoughts?

    Fyi:
    PC: Asus V1JP
    OS: Vista Business
Games: WC3 Frozen Throne, Counterstrike 1.6

    Thanks for your help

    Couple of things to try:

    (1) Can your friends ping you?

    (2) I don't play either of those games, but a lot of games give you the option of typing in the server host's IP address. If they enter your IP address (and you host a game), does it still not show up?

    (3) As you say, it sounds like a firewall issue. Even if your firewall is disabled, make sure your friends are disabling theirs as well.

    (4) Did you (or one of them) recently install new security software? That could be anti-virus, anti-spam, etc. software that could be interfering. A lot of products now like to bundle various security modules.

    (5) In this ad-hoc network, if you are using multiple routers / gateways, make sure that one of them does not have its firewall / traffic filter enabled.

    Regards,

    z.
