I've been treating my ul30vt like a baby since I got it, but recently I started to using it daily in school so it got a little dusty, yesterday at the end of the week I grabbed a soft cloth and started to clean the finger prints it accumulated throughout the week... However, after I was finished removing all the fingerprint, I noticed that the dust particles left a trace after I removed it... I kept cleaning it with my microfiber and when I was done, I looked at the reflection on the Bezel and what do you know.....its ALL scratched![]()
I mean, you can only see the scratches when you point it towards a light but come ON.....I've had it with glossy plastic, the same thing happened with my ps3 and psp, why.....do they....keep....using......glossy.....plastic?!!??!?!?!![]()

As much as I love Asus notebooks for their quality, performance and looks, if by the time I change my laptop (I change them fairly frequently) theres not an ASUS model without this god forsaken dust/fingerprint/scratch attracting material, I will switch brands.
Why do I care a lot about this kind of stuff? simple...resale value, i've found that when I resell my notebooks, most of the time they get bought pretty quickly because of the mint condition I keep them in.
I don't know but considering the alienware m11x seems to meet my needs (small and powerful graphics card) I might be getting rid of my ul30vt pretty soon. I'm not a fan of the "gamer" look but at least it looks like their casing is completely matte.
All in all, be very careful when cleaning your glossy notebook, I recommend first dusting it off with compressed air, then cleaning it with a microfiber cloth.
Cheers

This happens... almost all glossy laptop surfaces develop a fine pattern of small scratches over time, due to cleaning and other contact. Typically, the pattern is not visible except if you look closely and under the right light/angle, so it's not such a terrible problem.
Of course, it will disturb some people such as yourself, while others won't care. I don't expect it will effect the resale value much.
On a more general note, I also disagree with the recent trend of making glossy laptops. The reality is, it looks good on the shelf and people will buy it without considering the fact that it'll be a dust/fingerprint magnet. After said customer has paid the money, the company doesn't care much whether the laptop surface holds up well to wear&tear... -
Yeah I know they are not that noticeable. I just have a tendency of taking care of my electronics way more than normal people. If there had been and invisible shield available for the ul30vt I would've bought it.
Still, apple for example, which works a lot on its laptop looks, has avoided this plastic in all of its products, just the white macbook but you cant really see anything there. And the back of my black iPhone 3g is glossy but the plastic is sort of different, it wont get scratched easily.
One thing ive noticed from the ul30vt is that the glossy plastic from the bezel and the one from the palm rest, while both attract finger prints, the one on the palm rest one does not get the same scratches the bezel does.
Looking closely, the plastic in the palm rest has got some sort of...sparkly texture which I kind of like, like a starfield effect... Wish they would've made the bezel from this plastic too.
Oh well... -
Good thing it doesn't affect the performance of your laptop.
Cant believe I scratched my ul30vt while trying to clean it...
