So ... Catalyst 6.11 is out and im wondering if anyone has tested it. Seeing as i have a presentation in a hour to give with my W3J i will NOT be testing 6.11 any time soon lol. I was wondering if someone could give 6.11 a go and see if there are any improvements.

On a personal note, id LOVE if someone with a W3J tried 6.11 and could see if they can turn boot their computer normally with PowerPlay enabled on battery or if that feature is still screwed up.

Would love to see a review on the new Catalyst 6.11. Hope to read something soon :)

6.11 still has powerplay issues for me on my W3J. I'm rolled back to the 6.8's and they work fine with powerplay. When I did have them loaded I didn't see any difference in 3dmark05 scores.

I was having major BSOD issues with 6.10 so I've been using 6.11 and it seems to have resolved that problem. But now I have major power management issues. i.e. I can't use my laptop unplugged. Unplugging it while it's running causes a reboot and it goes into an endless reboot cycle if not plugged back into the power. I'm not sure what Powerplay is but changing the settings of Power4 Gear and turning it off don't seem to be doing anything,

After rolling back to 6.10, I can confirm the shutdown and inability to work with the power unplugged is unique to 6.11. Now I have to watch for the BSOD issue again... ugh. I'm not even sure who to submit these bugs to. Asus technical support didn't know what to do with the Windows error codes I gave them and suggested I use the recovery partition which I was in no mood to do since I know that won't resolve the issue, aside from bringing me back to some ancient video driver.

Major 3DMark score drop further back. Is there any way the monitor's failure to turn back on after going black is related to the video driver? I'm beginning to suspect that it is the only cause of all the W3J's issues.

Brett, I think the 6.8 version is worth a try. You can still get the high 3DMark score and solve the power issue at the same time.

Actually 6.10 hasn't caused any issues yet (since the re-install) so things might be OK. My only gripe now is the screen not coming back after going black... but that's an Asus-wide problem so who knows what's causing it.

P.S. - I encourage anybody who owns a W3J to visit ATI's Mobility support page and to submit this bug and any other video-related bug you've found. If enough people submit the same complaint, they'd be foolish to ignore it.

by that, do you happen to mean when you take it out of standby or hibernate mode? if so, i've had that problem. the way around it is to just close the notebook lid and reopen it. if that's not the case, i havent had any issues with catalyst 6.10

Nrbelex, the loops of reboots is not a 6.11 only problem as ive had that problem on my W3J since 6.9 on. Im using 6.8 at the moment and it works just fine. As for what causes that issue, it is PowerPlay, a feature built into the Catalyst Control which lowers the GPU speed to lower power demand depending on how much battery you have left. If you turn this feature off in the control panel it resolves that issue for any driver version, just sucks because a great function wont be working.

I was wondering more about performance, anyone test 6.11 for 3Dmark scores etc? would be interesting to see

So far 6.8 is my choice as it provides the most stability, functionality without bugs, and performance.

i had loop reboot with 6.9 too but all u gotta do is turn off powerplay by going into Display Properties -> Settings -> Advanced uncheck powerplay and you're done.

i don't know bout 6.10 or 6.11 because i have switched over to omega since 6.9 sucked so bad.

I got 4365 with 6.10. After an initial bad install (BSOD) things are working great again. It's a big boost over the stock scores and you don't need to turn off or adjust any settings. My only issue is if I leave the computer for a while and the screen goes blank, sometimes it won't come back. I turned off standby and hibernate and letting the LCD go blank when plugged in since I wouldn't really want it to anyway.

The difference in 6.8 vs 6.11 3dmark scores is negligable. The difference in stability is huge. I'm sticking with 6.8 for now.
