    hey guys.....long time!

so finally, my W2JB is giving me its first major issue.....

any cd or dvd i put in, everything works as far as watching or listening, but the drive sounds like it is gonna lift off and fly away......

i am talking about EXTREMELY noisy, basically like it is vibrating the entire computer or something.....

anyone else come across this and know why or how to fix?

i tried searching, but couldnt find anything....

    thanks!

Is it doing it for all CD/DVDs or is it doing it for some particular ones ?

Same problem, but mine does it for a particular CD. This is on a G1S.

interesting to see that others face the same issue.....

come to think of it - it is only for particular cd's - but i cannot distinguish why certain cd's make that noise?

could it be that some are like 1mm larger/smaller?

    who knows........

i am just hoping it is not a hardware issue....

Depends on the model of the DVD drive that is in your laptop. Some are quiet (the TSSTs I've seen are relatively quiet), some are noisy (I had a LiteOn slim drive which was extremely noisy).

As far as type of CDs, sometimes it has a harder time reading the disk if it is poorly burnt or suffering from CD rot. When it does, it so it slows it down and hence makes less spinning noise but more seeking noise. Slim drives typically have a harder time reading bad disks compared to desktop drives.
