I'm not sure if anyone posted this yet. It seems that in some European countries, ASUS have released the Centrino 2 "V" refresh of the V1 series ( ASUS V1V). For instance, in The Netherlands:

Some information found while googling:

It has the entry-level Penryns as CPUs, which may be a good choice for the business user (lower TDP).
It also has an ATI GPU, which is good news for the quickly growing base of nVidia-avoiding buyers.![]()
On a sidenote, I also see some Santa Rosa/Penryn versions of the VX2 and VX3 Lamborghini notebooks, both above 2500EUR. I wonder who buys that stuff... And no sign of the G50 in the Netherlands.

The first link from webhostingoverview looks like they got confused with an F8 series there. The first 2 pictures are of an F8, notice the hinge, interior silver top case and rear output ports.
OTher than that, it looks like a slick reminiscent of the older V/W lineup that some of us older Asus users dearly miss. Would love to see the lcd case of this.. -
I think the outside look is similar to the V1J/V1S(n). The inside certainly looks similar, if I remember the V1 correctly.
-
I was wondering why all of the V1sn's were out of stock...
That, and the last link named that picture as the F8
The interior shots are of the V1, though.
EDIT: Actually, in the first link, it's also showing two notebooks (even though it says they are the same.) The interiors are different.
EDIT2: The specs?
-
I also agree that the outside photos are not of the V1. What I mean is the V1V probably does look like V1S, it's just that the photos posted in that link are wrong.
Those specs are probably not European, what I found here was with a P8400. -
It looks like this is close to coming out in the states. ExcaliburPC has it for preorder.

Looks like they downgraded the screen resolution (it's now 1400x900). It has 250GB of HDD unlike the 320GB mentioned above. Has the T9400, though.
EBE: yea, I pretty much misunderstood with you. I agree with what you're saying. -
The F8VA-C1 is a better buy (I might be ordering it soon)...don't see the point of that V1V? Am I missing something?
-
The V1V is a business machine... and the F is a budget/performance machine. That's the main difference.
I don't know how much that means in real life, it depends on how you use it. For instance, the V1 has a docking port and a hotswappable bay, which may make quite a difference for certain users. -
I saw the dock....if the F series is budget, which Asus models are not?
-
Well, V = business, W = business/portability (? there used to be even a 17" there), U = (ultra)portables, F = performance budget, A = budget, G = gaming, M = multimedia. And the older bunch, Z, S, plus the rebranded X series...
ASUS get pretty complicated and not always consistent with their naming scheme. -
anyone else kinda surprised they went back to the letter V?
-
They didn't go back, the V1V is just the latest in the V1 series (V1J, V1S, V1Sn -- I think there was one of those, too).
-
Will there be a new V2V as well? I like the V1V, but I think a 14" would be better for me. I love the docking station and would also like a swapable bay as well. Worse comes to worse I'll just buy a extra battery. I think I will need Vista Ultimate over Business...

yeah i hope there will be a V2 as well we gotta wait and see what it looks like first though
-
It will probably look just like the V2J and V2S (I think there was a V2S, wasn't there?)
-
I'm kinda disappointed with the latest V-series so far... they don't use premium materials anymore after the V6V... (ie. brushed aluminum and magnesium alloy)
