    Hey all,

I have a quick question about changing the ASUS HD. I'm planning to get one and would probably swap out hte 5400 rpm for a 7200 rpm down the line.

Firstly, how easy is it to swap out the HD? I know for thinkpads you just remove a screw and you pull it out. Is it similar for ASUS or do you have to open up the laptop?

Also, does changing the HD void the warranty?

    Thanks. I really appreciate it.

Search online for a disassembly guide for your model. In my M50SV it's a simple matter of removing a panel and a couple screws, but yours'll be different.

As for warranty, if you don't break any stickers marked "void", "void if broken" etc, I'm pretty sure you're safe.

If in doubt, call up ASUS tech support - they're great, (gave me info on overclocking without voiding warranty), and they'll be able to answer both your questions.

Okay great. Thanks. I found the manual at the ASUS website. I didn't know they provided it but apparently they do. FYI I was looking at the ASUS N80Vn.

I change one of the drives in my G71V to a 320GB 7200 drive. I did notice a change in responsiveness of the PC (its not always about pure speed) and made loading applications and boot up times very quick, in fact it feels more like a desktop PC now than a laptop. It also had the good effect of giving me very slightly longer run times on my battery (only 10m or so).

Only things I will say. Make sure you have a backup of any work, keep the old drive in case of warranty claims etc (easier to swap it out and then swap it back when its returned and you can put the old drive in a USB2 caddie for extra storage) and make sure you have everything you need to get the PC back up and running (at least the Windows reload disc and the network card drivers).
