How do I change various mobile settings, such as what closing the lid will do to the computer?

You change those under the power settings. You can access these through the control panel or just right click the battery icon, select power options, click change plan settings for whatever power plan you use, and then change advanced settings. A list will pop-up with options to change. One is power buttons and lid.
