more or less a newb to the whole computer thing, but ya got to start somewhere.
Looking at purchasing the G50t-X5 from best buy and take it apart as soon as it arrived. But wondering if possible, could i change the cpu for a different one. BB site doesn't say what kind it is, but pretty sure it's a P7450 and want to change it with a P8700. research showed they both can sit in socket p...
So would it work?

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
If you have the P7450, you can use the P8700 for sure. Otherwise, just make sure you have the 45 series chipset and you can use the P8700 for sure as well.
Also, between the P7450 and the P8700, you're going to see little if any noticeable increase in performance. Both chips are basically identical with the T8700 having just 400MHz more clock speed. -
Have a look at the ASUS Info Booth for more info.... -
If your going to do it mine as well get the P9600... Its the same as the T9400 but the P version... Its also the best P that is out now... It came out end of december.
You can buy them retail for about $350ish or get one on ebay for around $250... The p9600 on eBay though are ES, some are test chips while some are the actual final version just in ES... Those ones are fine, but dont get a test chip one... Basically if you do a p9600 make sure its E0 stepping or QJFS which is the offical compleate version just a not for resale one that people sell anyway, lol
I suggest this because if your going to spend money to upgrade it and void the warranty mine as well get the best the first time -
Thanks, Bryanu.
That looks like the better option by far.
Andy, yeah, i know its crazy to think of taking it apart, canceling out the warranty and stuff, but i've got few electronic items that i've not ripped open and not work. its the pleasure of knowing the innards personally or something.
Thanks CDR Wolf
