Is there a wa to change the size of the vista partition on my g1s? When I got it it had two partitions, 75gb (windows installed on this) and 67gb (empty). I want to be able to take space off of the first and add to the other...is this possible without reformatting? Or, when reinstalling windows using the recovery disk, could I set my own partitions?

    1. Run defrag a few times, to get the tightest packed data as possible.
    2. RIght click Computer, Manage, Disk Management, Right click C
    3. Hit Shrink, put in what size you want, and follow steps, if there are any (I haven't done it in months)
    4. Reboot, if not automatically done
    5. Go back to Disk Management, right click D
    6. Hit Extend Volume. Make it as large as you can/want, follow steps, etc
    7. Win.

Be sure to backup anything and everything that is important to you (music, pictures, bookmarks, EVERYTHING) just in the offhand chance that the changes mess something up.

    Does that help?

If that doesn't work for you, try Gparted.

Hey guys! I have the most stupid question ever lol but... Why do you partition the hdd? what is it useful for? I know you put some files on a partition and other on the other part but whats the point in doing that, what does it change?

If you set up two partitions, you can format the Install (C) partition, while keeping the data that is on the Data Partition (D) intact. I'm not sure if you can install programs on D, and keep them working after a format (probably not, regestry problems or something), but keeping Music, Movies, and Pictures is what I see as the most useful.

I left my G1S stock, just because I've only gone over 70gb ONCE, ever; I'm a hard drive neat freak ;)

Even tho I have two external HDDs (one networked), I still have my G1S in 3 partitions. I keep my data/movies/music on my D and E drives and back them up to my external drives every now and then. I'm glad I did because I recently had to do a recovery and my data was kept intact.

The thread below discusses how and why folks partition if you're interested:
