I want a Zenbook to use outdoor, i need IPS screen and MATTE finish, no glossy screen (not even glossy screen with "anti-glare" layer). The problem is that Asus doesn't make 15.6" zenbooks with ips+matte, it is only available in smaller models.

So i am thinking about buying the Zenbook 15.6" UX306UA-VB72 and replacing the screen myself. I have done this before with different laptops.

My question : where can i find a IPS MATTE screen that will fit on the UX306UA-VB72 and how can i be sure that it will fit ? I would be buying this laptop ONLY to replace the screen, so i must be 100% sure i can find a replacement ips+matte screen before buying it.
And no, i don't want to put a cheap anti-glare layer over the screen, i want to replace the whole screen with a real matte finish.

    thanks !

I'm confused, there seem to be a version of the UX306UA available with IPS Matte screen, this reviewer says his model is a matte screen (at 1.50)

But i can't confirm this information anywhere... Asus doesn't provide the type of screen finish, and even when contacting their customer support they can't answer me :(

Edit: i'm even more confused now, when googling UX306UA-VB72 the laptop is listed as 13.3" everywhere, the only website showing this model as 15.6" is newegg http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produc...orebbr=1&_ga=1.145052851.609930963.1462734149

WTF ? Does the UX306UA-VB72 even exists in 15.6" ? The information from newegg seems incorrect

    Indeed; UX 3**/~1 3", UX 5**/~1 5" (and UX 2**/~1 2", UX 4**/~1 4"). So you probably want the Zenbook Pro UX501VW (LP156UD1-SPB1).

Problem is that it has touch and, hence, is glossy (unless there's a non-touch version as well?). Although the bare lcd is actually a matte, it's been used in combination with a digitizer, making it a glossy out of necessity. Removing the digitizer from Zenbook's lcd would not help since the matte filter will not have been applied prior to glueing-on the digitizer. Only option is to replace it with a compatible, non-touch matte.

The VVX16T028J00 will be a drop-in and is pretty decent ( here's one for ~$140) or the LP156UD1-SPA2 ( used for ~$230). There's also a few listings for the non-touch SPB1's, but these are sold as 'compatible' along with the SPC1 glossy, so those are a bit of hit-and-miss when ordering. Anyway, the Panasonic and LG have pretty much the same display specs. and measurement results, so it's up to what kind of resolution you'd prefer at 15.6"; 2880x1620 or 3840×2160, respectively (I'd opt for the 1620p Panasonic at this display size).

Aww that's what i suspected, Newegg just made a typo when listing this laptop as 15.6" :(

i've already looked at the UX501VW, it seemed like a very good option but it's out of stock everywhere in Canada. I would have to use expensive package forwarding. If it was a fully matte screen i would consider it.

    A review says
However i think it's not available yet because i can't find it anywhere. Maybe it's worth waiting ? :/

Probably not; it's a 1080p, so it's unlikely it'll come with the 4-lane cable you need for 3k/4k panels (fhd only needs 2-lane). However, if 1080p is acceptable then there are lots of compatible panels to choose from, even some that have a much better image.

Do be aware that these systems are nothing like the UX501VW; the U processors are severely crippled, so performance is about half of a 'true' i7. These i7 U's are misleading to consumers and should really be re-labelled as non-U i3's. Factoring in the 960M and a proper cpu, that $500 extra for the UX501VW is more than worth it, provided it doesn't throttle due to poor cooling.

Wow, you are right, the 6500U totally sucks compared to the HQ CPU. Thanks for pointing this out. Looks like a dealbreaker.

UX501VW-DS71T seems available in Canada but is listed as Xeon CPU. Another incorrect information i suppose ? It is listed as 6700HQ everywhere else

Oh, and resolution is not a problem for me. I could live with 1080p. This laptop won't be used for gaming.

Ok so i think have reviewed all possible alternatives with i7-6700HQ like ROG serie, MSI PX60, Toshiba Tecra, Dell XPS 15, ...
Zenbook UX501VW-DS71T seems like the best choice at around $2000CAD. Other models have lower battery life or other downsides...

I think i am going to buy the UX501VW-DS71T with the VVX16T028J00 screen from your ebay link. Waiting from an answer from the seller to confirm it is compatible with the Zenbook
