Just wondering if anyone was able to do this? You know the lcd screen protector that comes stock with the machine? Was anyone able to cut out an exact shape, and place it on top of the matte screen?
I will be purchasing the z70va soon, and when I went into CanadaSys, I noticed that they left the screen protector on, along with the four tacky pieces of masking tape. Anyways, my question is, is it possible to apply something on top of the screen, in order to protect it?

glossy screens are glossy because they have a filter on them (that happens to be glossy) like the UV filters for CRT screens. It has nothing to do with the desirable glossy effect. i can't understand how all that glare would be desirable, even in the light of better contrast. As for a protective coating, if you take care of your LCD, it'll outlast you
. I have had laptops with LCD's since the early 90's. I have never had scratches or anything on them. If you take care of them, they'll be imacculate and i even use my shirt to dust off lint and stuff, the matter screens don't scratch easily (i think crt's scrach easier than matte-type lcd's).

saran wrap

Glossy screens also have enchanced contrast and colours which the 'shiny coating' only emphasizes, so just the screen protector won't do anything but look tacky

i cant find the link, but i think there is some sort of thingy that u can use. i'm actually not really sure what it is, but if i can find the link i'll post it.
well the closest things i could find at short notice are nushield screen protectors, but these wont really enhance your colors anything, just give it a little glossy look. however did find anothing thing tho i havent heard of anyone using it or how to install it. but here's a link to the product site.

i personally hate glossy screens, just like i hate glossy prints. i really hope matte screens never disapear that that glossy screens are just a fad. I know they offer better contrast and color (i've seen them up close) but the glare just totaly outweights the benifits. If it was like a 3D screen or something, maybe, but i just don't see any amount of visual quality outweighing the shine... what good is a great screen if you take it outside and go blind cuz the sun reflected into your eyes? hell, forget the sun, my cousin caused temporary blindness cuz his laptop reflected a house hold spot light into my eyes, haha. I can't imagine how often you glossy screened people have to shuffle and change positions with the time of day to move counter from the sun or everytime someone turns on another light in the room.

I'd like the glossy screen without the 'glare' panel, but with the enchanced colours and contrast...
Can I get fries with that? -

Yea, but its always paired with ColourShine...
Kinda like Lenovo/IBM's FlexView -

I prefer the matte screens - the reason being is that they are much easier on the eyes. When I had a glossy screen, I thought it looked awesome, but when I was surfing the web and reading text, my eyes got really irritated and I got a headache. I could never stare at it for more than 20-25 minutes at a time.
But, it's all personal preference. Go check out a computer with a glossy screen at your local Best Buy or Circuit City - that's the best way to decide. -
It really is just personal preference. I have matte screens and glossy and i prefer glossy i get barely any glare and when their is glare its not so bad u kinda look right past it. Also glossy are better outside than matte by far the sun doesnt wash the screen out nearly as much. I cant really say one is better than the other i like both both have different looks to them.

i wish there was a double polymer type crystal... The first being the TFT and the underlying layer having a two-phase clear/reflective state (simular to the early two-phase screens for e-book readers that display "clear"/opaque phases without using energy except for state changes). Then under normal lighting the the bottom polymer aligns to the clear phase allowing the backlighting to pass through and illuminate the LCD. However, if you turn the backlight off (FN+F5) then the bottom polymer goes 180 deg out of phase to the highly reflective state, allowing the room to light up the LCD. So if you went outside, your LCD would be brighter if you turned off backlighting and very legible. Or if you are low on battery and there was suficient ambient light, you could turn off your LCD and actually still see what's on the screen.
i'm sure the intial research would be expensive, but after mass marketing gets a hold of it, it would become cheap. Haha, me and my crazy ideas... -
Thanks all for the replies. When I walked into Candasys, they left the original monitor protection sheets on them, and it look ok. But anyways, I'll see what can be done when I actually get the notebook.
