My friend's 904's video and audio are choppy when we Skype.

What could my friend try to make things smoother? Maybe set the performance settings to high?

    Thanks.

Yes, set the performance settings to max but it could still be due to network latency, either the wireless or the actual wired connection. If the wireless signal is bad you could try moving closer to the router/access point, since the wireless in the eee is on the weaker end of the spectrum. Or try using wired ethernet. Make sure it's plugged into AC power too.
