IF you do clean install on Asus G50 does that mean you just pop in the vista disc that Asus gave u and then totally format everything and reinstall or should you use the vista that asus gave you and try to uninstall the junkware? I'm not sure how much junk Asus puts on their computers can some1 tell me? TYVM. Also if I format everything will the asus Turbo CPU boost program disappear because I formatted but does Asus give u a disc with all the G50 utilities and apps? Also if vista is pre installed then the key is used already so if I clean install does that mean I need to buy a new key or is the one that Asus shipped not activated ????

I just did a clean install on my G71V-Q1.

There are two Vista Disks and one Driver/Utilities Disk.

Install Windows per the on screen instructions. It will ask for the Utilities Disk during the install.
When complete, pop in the Driver/Utilities Disk and it will autostart and bring up a list of Apps that it will install. You will be given an opportunity to choose which Apps get installed.

My version of windows came pre-activiated. The Product Key is on the bottom of your lappy. I don't see a need to change the Product Key (at least it hasn't asked me for it).

W8 If you clean install dont u just pop in the vista disc and install it over the old windows? SO once u do a second install doesn't that state that you need a new key or you get the stupid piracy warning from MS?

If you have access to a RETAIL copy of vista home premium 64 or ultimate, aka store bought vista DVD, you can do a clean installation. This is different than XP where you need to use the recovery disc that came with your computer. If you use the recovery disc, it will just bring you back to the factory settings with a fresh windows installation. The recovery program restores an IMAGE which is a bit different than a regular windows installation procedure. All the "bloatware" comes back. ASUS is notorious for not including **too** much bloatware, the worst being symantec and asus update. Beyond that there are only generic vista tweaks that you'll have to deal with no matter if it's a totally clean installation with a retail disc or a fresh installation from the recovery disk. Unless you have some specific reason to have a totally clean installation, there isn't much reason to bother since there isn't all that much bloat to begin with (compared to others).

Can someone confirm that this is the way to do things in the newer Vista recovery procedures? And also give the model number where this is known to work?

I'd like to add this info to the Info Booth, the "clean install" procedure is a bit out of date.

Yes. On my G50V and my N10J it asks for the driver disk immediately after the initial part of the recovery. It then installs drivers and apps and reboots a few times. If I remember correctly it also did that on my G1S.

Edit: I see what's in the info booth, the clean install option may not be valid anymore... I've never tried doing that though because of the answer file and PE image requiring the scripts to finish along with the application selections. I think it'd just keep asking you for the media until you gave it to it and installed the 2nd half with the driver cd inserted.

Looks good to me... there is the third method of using the retail vista DVD for a totally clean install (without drivers) but I guess that'd just confuse most people... your changes seem accurate to me though :D
