Hi guys, i have a problem on notebook asus. (for now i dont tell the model because i dont remember). Unfortunately my colleague dropped a coffe' on the notebook (hot and with sugar)

Seems work fine and early i try to use the keyboard, not all keys work and sometimes some keys is blocked (touch one time end write to infinite).

Poweroff and i started to open the notebook but i take off all the screw , clean mainboard with spray for electric contact and also the keyboard's flat and connector of flat keyboard. i hope clean everything, i dont know sincerally because i bought only a spray. ans handkerchiefs.

i have not time to reassemble all, and i have big doubt: the problem of crazy keyboard...depends for the mainboard, for the coffe inside the keyboard or maybe for the flat connector??

    Thanks in advance
    Daniele

Depends on the model. But generally, there's a layer of plastic, a layer of print, and another coat. The presses on the keyboard hit the circuits between the layers, creates resistance, it's read back, and so on.

Problem when you get water on the keyboard is that the two plastic layers usually aren't completely tight. There's an opening where the connector is, for example. And you can get water in on the sides, and it's practically impossible to get it out again.

Then when you plug it in, the circuits short, or it burns the conductive.. paint?.. maybe that they're using. And then it doesn't work. So if you can, make sure you vaporize all the fluid on the edges and on and behind the layers before turning it on. (Don't melt the extremely soft plastic pads under the keys, though..).

I would do as nipsen says but if all fails try and see if you can see if your warranty covers it! It'd be a shame if it didn't and it will probably affect ypur relationship with your colleague..

If your laptop is registered with Asus and you still are under your first year of warranty you should have the Asus ADP (Accidental Damage Protection).

If you are outside of your first year of warranty, you may be SoL. contact your reseller or vendor or Asus to see if they can assist you with it as it likely caused some damage to your system, if it isn't damaged now it might be affected down the road.

Still.. just ordering a replacement keyboard works. And parts for older models are cheap. Do they have any models at all now that don't have the "keyboard on a plate" design..? ..asusparts, e-bay, that kind of thing.

*sigh* It's always sad when someone dear to you passes away.

No, if you're up to it, it might be possible to get a mainboard and a keyboard like from e-bay, rescue the processor and ram.. take the opportunity to get in some new cooling goop.. and get it working again. The problem might be that some wires in the chassis and the battery that might not be intact/shorted. Seen that in some HP models.. these amazing drainage canals that lead directly down under the battery bay. Or down into the connector to the lcd where the isolation plastic has almost been worn off, etc..

But it's worth a shot.. as a project, maybe? I wouldn't bank on that it will work, to be honest. At least not as well as punching your colleague in the face until they buy you a new laptop.

    i know i know nipsen, i think too...sigh
but is dead, what can i do? :), is a satisfaction when reborn a notebook ...but not this time, sometimes can happen.

i googled the name of mainboard, nothing on ebay or similar (im italian) , i found only on aliexpress ..200€

i think its better to sell the spare parts of notebook.

forget the colleague...i wanna talk with the boss :)
