Hello, I am looking for a notebook for college. I know there are the subforums for this, but they never work. Most asus models I was recomended are part of the UL series- aka not what I want. But they dont understand this. And there are too many models on the asus site. So can you help me out?
Screen size
13"-15" (Im leaning towards bigger- why not, for writing papers, games, internet, movies, etc)
processor
Something more then a ULV. seriously. I live on my computer, so nothing that will struggle with what I do (like written above, but maybe some photoshop, games like elderscrolls 4, sims, theme park games).
I hardly ever use my optic drive. And even so, I guess I could copy the files over on a school computer, and use a flash drive.
While I hate judging a computer by its ability to game, that would be the most demanding thing, and thus the hardest test on it.
Battery life, right now my old acer is about 20 minutes. And that sucks. I would want to be able to take it to the library or student union, and not have to bring my power cord. But then I would only be on aim, office, and chrome.
Thanks so much for your help. I know it is not the FAQS, but those are over repetitive, and this seems to work better.

Seriously, I don't understand why college students need a notebook catered to them. I go to college and I carry a netbook, my 14 incher, and 17 incher depending on my need. I only need to carry a notebook to school like 2 or 3 times this semester. There are TONS of computers on campus and a USB drive can do wonders. So for college, I recommend getting the most powerful laptop you need for your dorm room and use the computers on campus (that's what they are for). The $999 asus in the deals subforum looks good to me.

While I would not say that the ULV Cpu is super powerful...it has more than enough grunt for those games...(You do know that Games are not limited by the cpu but by the GPU?)
BTW...Have you played too much Sonic Adventure 2? -
Campus computers often aren't as good for games ^_~

get the new G51jx. Its coming out soon and its only 1500. It'll game anything out right now with decent battery life. Probably 2 hours max more if you get the nine cell.
-
...At that price point and size he might as well get the G73jh....
-
Not a laptop I'd want to carry around with me, that.
-
You don't carry it around. Leave it in your room and use the school computers.
-
Then why buy a laptop at all?

I do not need a notebook catered to me. I am just looking for the best laptop I can get. Why, because I cannot afford a netbook, laptop, and desktop replacement. I could afford one, and thats it. So enjoy your multitude of computer waste and think about college students who dont have money flying out their a.....
Yes, but the cpu is also important. It would be controlling everything besides the graphics, granted I get a dedicated graphics card. But sound, physics (unless this integrated over to the gpu?), internet, loading, environment, ai's, etc. I do not want to buy a brand new computer only to have it be 30% increase over my current t2310 (which slows down sometimes on just chrome). Thats why I really want a good c2d or core i (hell even the 3 is fine).
and yes, yes I have. Is there anything wrong with that?
It is tempting, but in my hurry I forgot to mention my budget. +1 faqs. anyway, it is strictly below 1000. and by that i mean 999 is not acceptable. I am poor, and all the cheap electronics I have break. so unless its indestructible then ~800 is best. -
Just get the Sony CW27 at bestbuy. Should have everything you want and more.

are you specifically looking for an asus or just a laptop in general cause this is asus specific. Nothing much for 800. Check this site out though. They have a good range of laptops, some that are good for portability (not gaming though). To be honest, with 800 bucks don't expect to play any recent games. And with your budget of 800, your specs won't be that good. just a heads up.

You can survive college with no laptops. True story.

A netbook + a desktop would be better than 3 laptops.. really. If you want a good laptop around $800, you'll probably have to look out for some good deals like the Lenovo Ideapad Y550p that was on sale a few days ago. The N82 seems to be a good choice too once it comes out, but it will cost around $1000.

eh? heard of GTA4?
