I just saw on an amazon discussion that a U80V-B2 is on its way, should be on amazon on the 18th, and maybe on the canadian amazon thereafter, though im sure it will be available in all the asus retailers in Canada on the 18th. Right now it might be even a better deal to buy it from one of our american friends since the loonie is soaring.

Pretty excited about a b2 of the u80v, was going to go for a ul80, and maybe i still with, still deciding on the battery life vs processor speed.

Amazon Canada doesn't sell much electronics, let alone computers.

I'd take a look at the larger Canadian dealers like Canada Computers, NCIX, Tigerdirect, etc. for the upcoming units.

I'm curious to see if the specs are essentially the same as the U80V-A1 with Windows 7 replacing Vista, or if they make additional changes. I really like the built in Bluetooth, backlit keyboard, etc...

Will be tough to decide between the new UL80 with dedicated graphics and this.

Reasons why people love the UL80VT:

#5. DDR3 System RAM as opposed to the DDR2 in the U80
#4. NVidia GT 210M slightly better than the DDR2 4570
    #3. Thinner and Lighter
#2. 12hr battery life sounds amazing
#1. It is actually available in the US

But with this latest development with the U80V-B2 my interest has been peaked. Hopefully it keeps the backlit keypad, and gets DDR3 system ram.

Nah you cannot upgrade the system memory from DDR2 to DDR3. Also in a benchmark that someone posted the DDR3 NV 210M using the Turbo technology gets a higher score than the DDR2 ATI 4570 that is used in the U80

    3DMark 06:

3300 in an Asus with the same ATi 4570 DDR2
3355 in the UL80VT using turbo mode

So I guess it is the same.

Edit: Where can I find info on the U80-B2? I cannot find anything.

no you cant find any info about b2 i was trying to get the info but not so much. there is just assumption that it will go out to sale in anytime soon.
hmmmmm but still u80v has whole lot better speakers.
and even it was turbo mode how can ul80v beat the processor that u80v has?
this whole thing got me so confused...well,,,i need to wait a bit longer, i guess

that has got to be the worst argument ever.

who in the hell cares about laptop speakers? even the best of laptop speakers are trash if you care about sound quality.

my advice to all laptop owners, get a pair of quality earphones.

I believe there was a comment from an ASUS rep on the Amazon forums that the U80V-B2 would be available on Amazon North America site for preorder in early November. I am curious to see what the specs are on the B2, but the ASUS rep was pretty tight-lipped about it.

Bwahhhhhhhhhh !!!!! At this rate I'll never purchase a laptop..

Asus, it's not too late!! Show us the U80V-B2 with:

    DDR3 System Memory
A good ULV (don't care if it's Intel or AMD, although I know the chance is slim to none that'll be next gen AMD, and if it was AMD it'd mean no DDR3) + Turbo33
Backlit Chiclet keyboard with AI light sensor
Slot load (I dunno this one isn't that important)
Any GFX 4570 and up (but no DDR2 mem on the gfx plz)
Intel 5150 or other wimax option (yes I live in Tokyo/Portland, and have wimax available in both and it's great)
    BT I guess..

    Under 1k?

My wallet is out already.. show me the goods.

They did say it. Look in the ul80vt info thread for the link

The u80v is weak when you look at it now. Horrible battery life ( <3 hours ) processor is only a 2.1 now ( wowow- only .3ghz faster )
and the graphics card has ddr2 memory and is weaker than the g210m with ddr3.

Only real benefit over the ul80vt? The backlit keyboard and bluetooth.

Both of which can be added after the fact to the UL series ( with minor work )

Where do you get <3hours? so long as it isn't really loading up the CPG/GPU it should be better than that. I have the U81a BB version and easily see 5+ hours on the net etc. If I tweak it a bit I see 7+ hours.......

Well 1.3 to 2.1 is .8 GHz faster, even with Turbo33 it is 1.7 GHz and still .4 GHz faster. Also that Turbo33 is bound to eat into the 12 Hour battery but if I could get the 80w battery they have in the UL I'd be able to push 10+ hours.

With certain enhancements to the U80 it may be a consideration, then again I putout on 589.00 for mine and wouldn't think of dishing 1100+ of a U80 when a UL80 could be had for 850 or under. I don't have the dedicated GPU but I don't need one either............

But it is not really true. You are looking at one configuration of the U80V. I have seen it available from an AUS online retailer and from ebay.com with a P8xxx CPU which is way better than the SU7300. Also the U80V CPU is not soldered, so you could upgrade it. Unlikely you will be able to do that with the UL80VT.

And a backlit keyboard can be quite an incentive to purchase a notebook. I know if there was a $100 option on the UL80VT to get some lights under my keys I would show them the money!

According to the Amazon.com USA Asus rep (assuming it is not an imposter), it not only exists but was supposed to be available for preorder in a week 1 November launch as of the 18th of this month of October. Asus and/or Amazon seems to be dragging their butts on this one, and I for one am hoping that they came to their senses and decided to include a P series processor instead of the T series in a last ditch effort to pump up the battery life. Better yet, perhaps they are waiting for a new batch of video cards from AMD or Nvidia!

We'll see if the U80V-B2's truth on 11/1. Considering this model for my next purchase, and if they slap another T-series on it I'll just buy a P-series off ebay. With Nvidia I'll bet on a 230M or with ATI a DDR3-equipped 4570.

Well there was an Asus U80V-A1 that was supposed to be available in the USA back in August. The Best Buy version U81 came out but everyone here was still waiting on the U80V. Then they started popping up overseas (AUS was the first place I saw it outside of Asia) and people started to get hopeful. Then it popped up on Amazon but with a 2.0 or 2.1GHZ T processor. And then it was gone.

So the OP is saying a B2 version is coming out. After the A1 fiasco I will believe it when it is delivered to my door.

Yeh Hoy, benchmarks have it slightly behind the UL80VT in Turbo Mode.

I tell ya it is tempting. You could upgrade the CPU on the A1 so you should be able to on the B1.

    Battery Life - UL80
    Weight - UL80
    GPU - Tie
    RAM - UL80
    CPU - U80
Other - U80 (backlit keyboard, fancy touchpad)
    Price - UL80

Does the CPU and lights make up for the $100 difference? I really want the backlit keyboard :(

Then go for the U80 if you don't mind the loss of battery life. Personally, the UL80, being with DDR3, would run better if you have an SSD in it, or even a standard drive. The U80 is moreorless for looks...

Meh, I thought they would do a change of components in the U80V. Changing OS to W7 is pretty much about it.
