Do you guys know a few things will be the common features for the coming models from Asus? I am not saying every model, but they will be very common.

They are: CBB ( common building block ), Sata, bluetooth, increase 1024x800 to 1440x900

Asus and Intel are working together to push the CBB concept, to make customers very easy to get accessories, it is quite possible in the near future, you will be able to buy Asus notebook accessories from Intel website, seriously.

CBB will be a big deal for coming Asus models, I THINK Asus is the only notebook maker to work together with Intel for this concept, no other big manufactuerers.

I think CBB can lower the manufacturer cost and dealers inventory cost, but in the same time will lose the uniqueness(Is this a word?) of the laptops.

Sata and blue tooth also common, for example the coming Z62J, Z96, Z84...

Another stretegy is we won't see very entry level whitebox, but we will see very entry level ensemble because resellers are not strong enough to build whitebox models to fight Acer, dell...

Interesting to hear...thanks for posting it Danny.

I guess we'll all see how this plays out in the near future. :)

Unique-ness wouldn't be lost. If people could personalize their laptops with components that they think they would use more often, this would cause the increase in personality of the laptops itself.

Think about it, laptop users could be almost on a level of customization like their desktop counterparts. The laptop itself could be a reflection of what the user personalizes it to suit his/her needs.

:/ Too bad for the entry level whitebox. Any reason to this?

"Interchangeability" is intel's terminology, Asus seems like CBB more.

Because no matter how low Asus drops the whitebox prices, resellers still have no way to win Acer and Dell, acer and dell can get OS from MS at $30 each, also very good cost at HD, memory..., only on these parts, we lose more than $100 already.

    It could be very soon.

I just hope the demands of CBB don't compromise on form-factor and weight ... if everything's interchangeable but all the notebooks look and weigh like bricks, it really isn't worth it..

On the other hand, SATA, Bluetooth and higher res are all very welcome :D

That's EXACTLY what the vendor told me as an incentive to wait for the W3J and not get the Vaio (which I returned...)

The CBB or "Intel Interchangeability Intiative" is very big, makes warranties much better because fixing will be super cheap and easy.

I hope with the introduction of Vista and its vector graphics engine, we will see a race to increase the resolution as much as possible (while keeping the same screen size). Too bad I can't wait that long to get a laptop.
