I have this in "Which Notebook should I buy" but thought I might get more opinions here. ALso, if you know of a cheaper or better vendor, that would be helpful as well. As for the Asus, I like the looks, more Ram, extra battery. As for the Compal, I like the faster hd, and better warranty. Which would you buy? Thanks for the help!

There are at least 10+ threads exactly like this is both forums. I'm sure if you check it out you'll get plenty of opinions and comparisons between these 2. I remember one very nice one with over 50 replies which had a good side by side pictorial comparison included as well...

I would go for the PowerPro just for their 3-yr. warranty and reputation alone. If you choose the Z96J, I believe you can get it a bit cheaper at another reseller. Build quality wise, the Compal may be better, but the Asus---while a Built On series model---is no slouch either.

If you get the Z96J from Powernotebooks, that would put the warranties on equal footing.

The manufacturer of the wsxga screen in the hel 80 is lg. Its a top line screen even though its matte. That makes a big difference to me.
You can get the z96j for cheaper though its a dollar difference to the screen for me.
Compal HEL80 vs ASUS Z96Js???
