Am I the only one picking the G1S because the Compal looks like someone sh*t on a keyboard and called it a chassis?

Until both have been released, or rather when ANYTHING is actually released, then comments would be worth threads. I can't say much to specs on a paper, though your current Fanboyism is off the charts :p

**** on a keyboard is a bit harsh...the looks of the IFL90 aren't anything to brag about (but then neither is the G1 with all those silly lights IMO), but it's TONS better than its predecessor the HEL80. Have you seen it? Silver keyboard on a black blocky and rounded chassis just looks..eh...

Pre-SR, most people picked the G1 over other comparable systems because it had a GPU just a bit better than any other 15.4" (same with the A8JS for the 14")...it's too bad they don't hold that advantage anymore now with the DX10 cards...at least not yet.

seriously though. Compal may make a good computer...but their designs are one step away from early 90s beige plastic box computer. That step is the beige.

People buy Compal barebones for features and specifications at a GREAT price, not style. Those other people we would call "Apple fanboys."

Eh, the V1 still looks better than the MB =p

Not that I'm biased or anything...

Then again, I think Thinkpads look awesome too..so I guess my tastes are a bit skewed :D

Well, I want specs and style with my PC.

I think the lights on the G1 are cool. People have different opinions you know?

I will spend 200 extra dollars for style. Some of these laptops are so ugly it leads me to believe what is inside is no better. Really, how hard is it to design something cool looking?

I can deal with most other designs, Compal just happens to make the only computer I can't look at and not want to cry.

No, the IFL90 actually looks really clean. Bland, but clean. It looks a bit like the HP Compaq business line, actually.

I cannot say the same for their previous generation of notebooks. The HGL30 and to a lesser degree the HEL80 are hideously ugly. With that Greenish teal stuff on the back, it made me want to puke.

Compal has come a long way with the FL90. the notebook is very clean and has a real high-end look to it. Much better than the Z96 series. I was very impressed when I initially saw the unit up close. Potential notebook buyers should definitely give this notebook some thought.

I like the simplicity of the Compal. It looks like a run of the mill laptop...until you fire it up. :D

I also don't want a laptop that will be the first one stolen if someone had the choice between the G1 and the IFL90. ;)

    Does the asus have Robson?
    I think the compal does.
and its an important factor in the descision? (or I could just ignore it cause of so so benefits?)

I agree with Tarheelscrubs in this case, laptops should look good as long as it is not elaborate though and causes possible problems (e.g break easy)

I like a good looking laptop too. But looks is the fist thing I'd compromise on.

Comparing the 2, the IFL90 has Robson as an option, the G1S doesn't.

The G1S has ESATA and HDMI out (I think). I haven't been able to confirm these on the IFL90.

    that's bad.
if it was for me I would take the light and put then somewhere far form the notebook, but I don't like a notebook with poorly designs
that alienware superman for me is a joke, sorry if I hurt someones filling. someone should put it to a test and see if it can fly, lol

Sure it can fly---just drop it out of a 10-story building and you'll see for yourself :D It'd probably look better afterwards too.

Don't judge the notebook by the cover - thought I don't care which notebook comes out on top of anyones list. Guess the decision will be based on looks, brandname and last but not least (?), the euro/dollar. Finally, the option to customize the Compal might also appeal to many.

im a big screen freak and thats only because i dabble in the visual profession. I couldnt care less if one had 100 more lines of res or half a ghz faster cpu or 10fps more cause all that doesnt define my usage or makes me money. But at the end of the day one things certain.... im still looking at the same screen day after day. So with that being said and all other specs being simular i would choose the G1 based on its screen alone. For me bit depth and dynamic range wins here!

ahhhhh... but youre not reading into the rest of my message are ya?? lol
I always look beyond screen size and res.
Also im under the impression the Compal is a matte screen?? correct?? or have i been misled?
Ive personally viewed, tested and used the G1 so if the G1s has the same screen then id be confident enuff to put myself out there and say the DR would be better.

GlueEater is right, atm IF90s come with glossy. However, hopefully a matte screen will be available.

I don't know if anyone factors this in, but how much resale value will the compal models have 1-2 years from now. I know that is one of the selling points that people factor in when they buy apple, sony sz, etc.

Well I'd assume it's less than others. Because

    1) it was cheaper than other laptops to begin with

2)no one's heard of it and most will think you're selling ripoff comPAQs.

3)not as sleek as the sonys or the apples, so another group of people will think you're selling an 80s laptops.

heh, but that's just my logic. Idk.

glue has a point, it doesn't matter what it can do almost every body goes for looks instead of spec (I said ALMOST EVERYBODY)
