If anyone can help me out with this, it would be very much appreciated. It's just about doing my head in. I'm trying to figure out what CPUs are compatible.

    I have an ASUS F3SC - AS014E

It currently has an Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 1.8Ghz CPU in it.

    It has the PM965 Chipset

And I've already updated to ASUS offical BIOS update to 209.

I know there are quite a few CPUs compatible with the chipset. But as I understand it, it is then limited by what the BIOS supports.

ASUS tech support was useless. Basically "We know but won't tell you". Like I care if it voids the warranty.

Does anyone know what will work or how I can determine what will work in this notebook?

Ok, I did some more digging around and for anyone who wants to know this is what is definitely supported.

The T7700 is the fastest that is fully compatible with both the latest ASUS BIOS and the PM965 Chipset.

The reason is ASUS will not release any updated bios that will properly support the newer penryn processors or that provide support for the unlocked multipliers on CPUs like the X7800 & X7900.

There have been some people who have been able to get the T9300 to work. But only through work arounds and by manually adjusting FSB & mulitpliers etc.

I'm pretty upset about this lack of support from ASUS, and it appears I'm far from being the only one. Personally this will be the last ASUS I buy. Next one will be with a manufacturer who provides decent support and bios updates.
