Hi, may i know what other GeForce GPU are more powerful than the current 8600m GT which are compatible with the Asus G1S ? If there are any, Maybe next time if there are any other games that requires very good graphic, i might wanna change my GPU to a more powerful one and because i am doing graphic modelling too. Do you think the 8700m GT is compatible with the Asus G1S notebook? Thanks.

I do not believe you can change the GPU on that machine, sorry.

I think it's removable but it'll do you no good, since there's usually nothing to replace it with due to very type-specific layout and thermal limitations.

You'll also void your warranty by removing the heatsink.

In three words, forget about it :)

The GPU is onboard - in other words ; it is impossible to swap to another ;)

The GPU is NOT onboard. You can change it, but the G1(S) and G2(S)-Series are not-MXM-standard. You can change the videocards between these notebooks, but not with MXM-cards. Maybe, in a year, there will be a new G1S, which card you can place in your G1S...but I don't think that you will be able to get these videocards without notebooks...

The GPU is NOT onboard, man ;). I have many proofs for that; one is, that there is key in a registry that only is on notebooks with MXM- or MXM-similar videocards, the other (and better proof) is, that I asked Asus :). I'll look for this email and post it here.

Hmmmmmm...if you saw that with your own eyes...I never opened my G1S (only for HDD), so I only can believe on Asus...I'll ask them again, but probably you'll be right...If I would have known that the GPU is onboard, I would never have bought the G1S...I did this mistake with the Amilo A1630...sucks!

This "mistake" will always be done with 99% of the notebooks currently on the market, except the ones that are specifically designed with upgradeability in mind (and those are few; even for those the choice of components is very limited).

The industry simply has not come to the point where notebook components are standardized. This was the same situation with desktops 1+ decade ago.

There is no getting around this truth.
