Still waiting for my ASUS W3J

It seems that many or most of the W3J owners have to update drivers, reinstall the OS. Isn't the ASUS W3J like other notebooks where you could immediately use the notebook without any problems/issues. And about the drivers, does ASUS have like a auto update feature, where the notebook could update it's drivers automatically. Or do I have to look for the updated drivers online. Something interesting has happened over the last few day, an outburst of negative reviews or issues with the W3J has appeared. Some of these posts tempt not to buy an ASUS but go for a Dell or a HP. But a quick look at the video of the W3J always cures by doubting and gets me excited about the W3J once again. :D :D :D

I think it'll run just fine the way it comes... most people are just picky about what they have on their machine, partitions and whatnots... so they re-do everything from scratch (including myself of course :) )....

The ASUS Live Update feature is probably the most useless of the pre-installed software.... it just keeps saying Up to date.. and no updates even though on the support site there's new stuff...

yes...... first, all drivers loaded on the systems are from whenever the system was made in taiwan, so they may be some updated drivers in the month between the the day it was made and the time it's ready to go out the door to consumers here in the states..... plus any time they're sitting in stock obviously.

Why do more W3 buyers reformat than say other models......... I don't know.. they don't need to and it's apparently a force of habbit from buying spyware and junkware filled major brand systems, but you don't need to do that with an Asus unit because it's not filled up with junk.

... if you still even think about a dell or hp after looking at a w3, please see consult a physician :)

... first, out of the box XP is going to have updates regardless...... those are what take the time. Asus' update ute is good for nothing and probably shouldn't be used. It only updates things that are basically 100% needed to run your machine and I would be surprised if anyone found more than one or two needed files come up in that update ute over the course of a year.... go to their website and look for new updates yourself and check to see if they are really meant for you.

I know i formated mine upon receiving it just because im picky but also, simplicity is bliss!

In any machine the less u put on it (ie, what it needs to do what u want it to do) the better it will be. Most machines come bogged down in my experience with lots of crap you just dont need that ties up system resources so ... its just habit and the W3J was no different for me. Although i did use it a bit right outa the box, i didnt test any games so, i guess it just comes down to force of habit.

Seems interesting how some seem to format their notebooks. How exactly do you do it in a notebook. In my PC, I had to make a set of recovery CD's and could use them whenever I want. In my other PC, they already came with the recovery CD. I've heard that ASUS does not bring any recovery CD's or any software that allows you to make some. I might format mines (whenever a new batch is available) only if it shall make it run faster. But can't you uninstall any software or "crap" that might be taking up system resources.

The ASUS notebooks don't really come with too much bloatware.. and most of them are just ASUS utilities that you can uninstall no problems... .. so if you're happy with the performance at default installation, then I say leave it alone.

Cool, so there's no "Try free AOL for 3 months" or "Free Movies for 30 days" kind of stuff in there. I guess some ASUS utilities could be useful.

That should be easy to uninstall right?
I might replace it with BitDefender. =)
