First the rumours, and recently, there was a *confirmation* on NBF that the z70v will be refreshed in a month or so with a x700 GPU.

I kinda expected this, but I'm still surprised. Will the z71v slowly sell less? And will the Price change?

Actually - Are there any more confirmations from dealers? Still no solid evidence..

Expected, but not right now... Asus still has plenty of Z70v's and as stated before it's something that was expected before the end of the summer........ but it'll have a different price tag, I'm sure.

Until I actually see a Z70v with the X700 appear on reseller sites, I won't hold my breath. To me, the key question is could current Z70v notebooks be upgraded to the X700, and, if so, what would be the cost? I haven't touched my desktop since getting my Z70v. If my notebook could be upgraded, I'd probably do it and then eBay my desktop PC. If current Z70v notebooks can't be upgraded, you'll probably see a lot of them on eBay whenever the refresh is released.

I think he meant exhanging the motherboard itself...

Or sell it now while its popular and not many people know about this upgrade [ :p][} :)]

If it's a motherboard replacement, I think upgrading definitely would be doable... not cheap, but at least the option to do so would be available.

No, the graphics card is removable, so when they do this, the graphics card would be available as a spare part... or at least should be... We weren't expecting this till back to school time though.....

No no.. just hold on a moment.... never said upgradeable... removable maybe... If Asus can fit an x700 in the system without changing much around, it might be possible... but don't hold your breath just yet.. But theoretically it may be possible. This is going to be a more expensive machine and we still don't know the release date....... but it was confirmed over a month ago... but so was the W1v and the W1 barebone....... so one thing at a time.

    Justin,

Given your expertise with Asus notebooks, if the later versions
of the Z70v do in fact have the X700, do you think that there will be some kind of motherboard/video card upgrade that we current Z70v owners will be able to buy that will give us the X700, as well?

    Thanks!

Thats hilarious. Justin dont forget i had 20 on last week of august. An asus insider apparantly confirmed it was due to release july to august so phew i am in the safe zone. I was really worried for a second. What a load off.
    Ok back to beiong serious.
The very few resellers that were around last august and were actively selling this product would know the following. When the 9600 in the m6n was upgraded to the 9700 it caused hysteria (not as much as this time around) which drove me nuts and caused people to wait a whole month just to buy the new one. Ofcourse this caused reselleres to loose a little for a short while and slumped sales for asus. Anyone who tested the 9600 vs. the 9700 would know the following. Same exact chipset. Nothing different. Even showed up in various utilities as the 9600. Freaky? No it was just a bios update on the card and a new driver. Had 0% effect on the benchmark. Am i saying this is what will happen this time around.? I dont know but i do know that i saw the x700 in a clevo laptop. Its not worth the convo we are having here. This so called top secret unveiling was talked about on this forum long before this "official unveiling". This information did not come from asus. If they knew anything about it they would not tell resellers for the reason that we would blab it all over the place and they would get screwed ou of sales for the next few months.

If the Z70V can take an x700 wouldn't it be in the realm of speculation that a W3V might as well?

And also Geared2play guy, are you really going to claim there would be little difference between an x600 and an x700?

Oh... I'll be the first to say right here and now... the W3v won't have an x700. You can take that two ways... one, it wouldn't be called the W3v (would it) ... but that is TIGHT inside.... Same goes for the V6v, but eventually....... the answer will probably be yes. Now does that mean 6 months... 8 - 12 months? I don't know, but the goal in this business is to keep making things smaller and more powerfull, so the goal is pretty obvious.

    Lets do this........

    1. from what I've seen, 128mb x700 should put up numbers like the 128mb 6600 nvidia card if not better..... that's if it's going to be a 128mb card... it could be 64mb..... we don't know that yet.

    2. we should change the title of the thread, because I this won't be an early refresh, but should be an entirely different model all together..... this one, unlike the M6n to M6ne (64mb 9600 to 9700)... should have more of a difference in performance and PRICE. The M6n and M6ne, while people had both of them were seperated by about $100 and if that difference was even worth that I would be surprised..... Asus also NEEDS a 64mb x600 system like the Z70v, in the lineup.. so I don't see it going away when this other model comes out.. so lets not call it an early refresh.

    3. If anything, it should perform better, obviously... but the 9600 to 9700 was done because they were the same formfactor, the same price.. and 9700's would sell better... this isn't for that reason.... the x700 would just be for better performance. Keep in mind, the x700 will cost more and WILL get hotter and use more battery life..... All the more reason I don't think the Z70v w/ 64mb x600 will completely go away.

    Justin

Name is Eddie not G2p guy.
I ve seen the x700 with 128 mb on clevo. Got to bench it first hand. It scored around 1300 something points on 3dmark05. Look familiar? Yes thats just above what the x600 scored. Now i dont know what was up with it. Maybee its like that in clevo not asus. I expect ati to have a unified architectire. When it does come out i ll be the first to want to know the score. Like i said dont hold your breath. This convo already took place long time ago on these forums before the ""official date"" went live on notebook forums. If this so called official info was received from asus (it was not) it is not suposed to be told to customers. [^]

That x700 score is pretty low compared to the numbers Asus has on the W2...... so i don't know.

Not normal. I briefly tried an Acer 8103 and this scored 2300 and change, which is in line with other MRX700 results I have seen. I mean, really: It's got 60% more transistors, three times the vertex power, and twice the pixel power per clock compared to the MR9600/MR9700/MRX300/MRX600 (all basically the same chip). It's definately faster, and noticably so!

I pray and hope that the x700 in asus surpasses that of the acer. I ll be the first to jump on the tractor trailer and do the review as soon as it hits the market. Hope i am wrong. We shall see in a few months time.

Actually, I believe "sploogied" is a derivative of the Latin phrase "erectus ejaculus myselfus."

IF, and that's still a large IF, we see a Z70v-ish notebook with an X700, you'll see a three-month old Z70v and a one-year old SFF PC make their way to eBay. :p

I like the website's new format.
