So I was browsing the Asus website and decided to send an email asking when the release date of the Asus V1S would be. Apparently it is going to be released at the end of the July so which means those that want one before school starts will be in luck :D

Heres the exact email:*Edits are in bold, just changing my personal email and name haha.

    Dear my name,

Thanks for your interest in ASUS products. For the ASUS V1S (Santa Rosa) it will be released towards the end of July. Please check our authorized distributors for the V1S during that time.

    Thanks,

    Subject: Asus V1S release date

Hi my name is blank and I'm looking for a notebook before the end of August for school.

I watched the CNET review of the Asus V1S (or Asus V1J Santa Rosa) and the specs fit the bill perfectly. I was wondering if you knew the release date/month for the Asus V1S as I do need to know whether it will come out before school starts in September.

Thank you very much for your time

it's a possibility that maybe they haven't sold enough of the v1j so are trying to clear stock.....maybe they are taking some time to figure out the battery issue....doubt it though :T

basically, they have massive battery wear problems, like the asus v6 and the r1.

EXCELLENT. September would be my expected shipping date, so thats awesome. Hopefully, it gets the 8600GT and hits the $1600 price point that the A8Js had when it was first released.

well, as requested, I emailed ASUS about the V1S and V2S...here is the response I received.

    Dear my name,

There will be a new V1S and V2S during the July time frame. Currently specs have not been finalized, but the V1S and V2S will be Intel's new Centrino Duo Platform (Santa Rosa).

Thanks for your interest in ASUS

i think that's what the V1s is supposed to be...the G1s w/o all the flashiness. it should be out mid-july according to ASUS so you should have no problem getting it by mid-august.

It's still going to be 15.4 inches and around the same price right? Maybe they might improve on battery and cooling?

I would expect some price difference due to the better materials. But who knows.

Cooling when using the same components.. perhaps. Battery -- more unlikely.

well, I dont know for USA, but the v1s and v2s have already been annonced in france.
It's prety much the same spect as g1s, EXEpT for the graphic card, witch is a 8400M  http://www.bestofmicro.com/actualite/22496-Asus-V1S-V2S.html
Other than that, it has a dvi port insteed of hdmi.
And also, the v2s got a 14,1 screen and 8600gs. Tought this is not nearly as strong as the G1S...guess I wont have to wait...
    Sorry for those bad news

Can't be correct.. I would wait until the V1S is listed on the Asus site, before believeing that the card indeed is a 8400GT.

Indeed, it's nice that Europe gets something first (it's rare to even have dual release).
According to the French retailer linked from the micro article, the V1s release is the 28th of July.
The V2s will probably be later than that. And longer still for an English (UK / US) version.

The problem with launch dates is that it isn't the date you'll be able to get it in hand. It might take up to a month or so from that date before some suppliers even get it in stock.

Most dealers can get their shipments in pretty quickly when products become available, for example, we got our first G1S/G2S shipments a day after they arrived Asus warehouse in Fremont, California. Hope this helps....

wow, that's abselutely awsome...guess Il wait before ordering a g1s...
oh, sorry to use your time like that :)o ) but...does asus v1(s, or actual jp) series is a big improvement over g1(s) in term of build quality. Because I see actualy the nearly same price for the nearly same spect, tought I guess the v1s dont come with a backpack and a mouse(dont care, already got those).
But are V1 series a real improment in term of build quality?
    Thank a lot Excalibur :)
