So I was browsing the Asus website and decided to send an email asking when the release date of the Asus V1S would be. Apparently it is going to be released at the end of the July so which means those that want one before school starts will be in luck![]()
Heres the exact email:*Edits are in bold, just changing my personal email and name haha.

Subject: Asus V1S release date
Hi my name is blank and I'm looking for a notebook before the end of August for school.
I watched the CNET review of the Asus V1S (or Asus V1J Santa Rosa) and the specs fit the bill perfectly. I was wondering if you knew the release date/month for the Asus V1S as I do need to know whether it will come out before school starts in September.
Thank you very much for your time
-
That makes me so happy!
-
Ask about the F8!
-
on it =]
will post response if / when i get it -
and the v2s plz
-
Ask for full specs of the V1s too
-
Dear my name,
For the United States, the Asus F8 it is in the preliminary development stages and nothing has been finalized. The release for this product will be towards the middle of August. Please check with our resellers during that time frame and i hope you are happy with your purchase. ( http://usa.asus.com/wheretobuy.aspx)
Thanks for your interest in ASUS

Now I'm getting excited =] -
Good, before September
-
End of July?
I was hopeing end of June... -considers the MBP and 1520 again-
I wonder why its takeing so long, their not changing the chassis or anything major. -
it's a possibility that maybe they haven't sold enough of the v1j so are trying to clear stock.....maybe they are taking some time to figure out the battery issue....doubt it though :T
-
uh oh... what's the battery issue?
-
mystic golem wrote a very long, detailed post about in the news and reviews section.....i'm to lazy to get the link.
basically, they have massive battery wear problems, like the asus v6 and the r1. -
awww no F8 till mid august T.T
i hope i can get it in time for school!! good thing my college starts somehwat late - sept 5th -
-
that's what i'm hoping too
my 4 year old inspiron 600m is dying on me
time to get a new one...the ASUS F8
haha -
well, as requested, I emailed ASUS about the V1S and V2S...here is the response I received.
Dear my name,
There will be a new V1S and V2S during the July time frame. Currently specs have not been finalized, but the V1S and V2S will be Intel's new Centrino Duo Platform (Santa Rosa).
Thanks for your interest in ASUS

interesting consider how it's almost July and no official specs have been released -
isn't the v1s supposed to have the same specs as the g1s? except its supposed to have that business look, and be more sturdier built =P. i start school in mid august. hopefully i can get it by then
-
i think that's what the V1s is supposed to be...the G1s w/o all the flashiness. it should be out mid-july according to ASUS so you should have no problem getting it by mid-august.
-
Can I make a request to ask Asus about the C90
?
-
Man I'm starting to want this V1S with all it's mysteriousness... I wish they'd stop holding out.

It's still going to be 15.4 inches and around the same price right? Maybe they might improve on battery and cooling?
-
I would expect some price difference due to the better materials. But who knows.
Cooling when using the same components.. perhaps. Battery -- more unlikely. -
well, I dont know for USA, but the v1s and v2s have already been annonced in france.
It's prety much the same spect as g1s, EXEpT for the graphic card, witch is a 8400Mhttp://www.bestofmicro.com/actualite/22496-Asus-V1S-V2S.html
Other than that, it has a dvi port insteed of hdmi.
And also, the v2s got a 14,1 screen and 8600gs. Tought this is not nearly as strong as the G1S...guess I wont have to wait...
Sorry for those bad news
VersuSqc -
Thats a bummer on the graphics card.
-
surprisingly the v2 has a better card than the v1....
-
sesshomaru Suspended Disbelief!
Can't be correct.. I would wait until the V1S is listed on the Asus site, before believeing that the card indeed is a 8400GT.

Well, Europe usually gets the shaft by Asus, I am holding out for the NA release.
I does suck if it is the international version though. -
Indeed, it's nice that Europe gets something first (it's rare to even have dual release).
According to the French retailer linked from the micro article, the V1s release is the 28th of July.
The V2s will probably be later than that. And longer still for an English (UK / US) version. -
hmm....supposedly the V2s is supposed to come out before the F8, and the F8 is being released in the US end of July (supposedly) and mass produced in August.
-
The problem with launch dates is that it isn't the date you'll be able to get it in hand. It might take up to a month or so from that date before some suppliers even get it in stock.

The ETA has been pushed back to mid of August now, I will have the product manager to check with Asus again on this. -
outch...my school starting the 22 august...2029 CAD seem perfectly on my budget, but does the ETA mean they get ship from the manifacturer on that date, or does it mean it get ship to the customer?

wow, that's abselutely awsome...guess Il wait before ordering a g1s...
oh, sorry to use your time like thato ) but...does asus v1(s, or actual jp) series is a big improvement over g1(s) in term of build quality. Because I see actualy the nearly same price for the nearly same spect, tought I guess the v1s dont come with a backpack and a mouse(dont care, already got those).
But are V1 series a real improment in term of build quality?
Thank a lot Excalibur -
Well Ive returned my Dell, Just couldnt stand how poorly built it was (Crap screen, Crap Burner, Crap Ethernet, Crap keyboard, Extremely crap Service.) So Im looking at the V1S again. I wonder what the clocks on the V1S are like in the GPU
-
-
Wonder if the battery issues that were present in the V1J have been solved...
