I understand that the chassis differs and that the w3j doesn't have a camera, but what are the current specs of both of these. It seems that there have been refreshes and such and I'ld just like to know the benefits of both of them. It appears that the a8j would be a better deal, however it seems like most people like the w3j better? Please help me out, I want to buy my first asus laptop soon! Thanks in advance.

btw... I searched I just don't know what the definative latest info is. Thanks again.

I think the main difference (all others being equal) can be summarized with these:

    W3J:
    - Better materials & looks.
    - Hot swappable bay, so you can put 2 batteries in.

    A8J series:
    - DVI included
    - Webcam
    - More USB ports (5 vs 3)

What are the current graphics chipsets that are coming on both of them? Also bluetooth.

    On A8Ja and W3J, both use x1600.

Bluetooth included in all versions, except the A8Jm's that came to North America. A8Ja should have em.

Just make a simple in a big difference.....
A8j video: nvdia go 7600 with 256MB with a DVI connector, built-in webcam, support spendid video, doesn't come with a bluetooth in Canada version, come with a Windows xp home

W3j video: ATI x1600 with 256MB without a DVI, built-in bluetooth, Windows xp pro.

So basically in the end once the A8jA comes out the differences will be
    A8j - Camera -- DVI Connector
    W3J - Better Build -- XP Pro

Any idea on the A8Ja release date, right now I'm actually leaning towards the w3j as I do a lot of programming on the floors of manufacturing facilities (because of the better build quality).

I have been waiting ont he same thing flux. I am leaning almost fully to the W3J. I figure this.

a8jm : DVI, WebCam, 2 extra USB Ports, cheaper
W3J : Better build quality, swap drive can hold an extra battery or extra harddrive

As far as graphics go they will perform very much the same though I would think the W3J is really more stable. This will not matter either way so i did not list it for a pro for eigher.

DVI :SO I personally not use DVI will you? I have a PC to game on if I want a monitor

USB: 3 is fine for me and on the RARE occasion I need more.....a cheap hub will suffice

WebCam: I can always buy an external on. And if they come out with better ones I can upgrade.

But aren't laptops about portability? The W3J gives the most important feature...more battery life!!! That ectra batter may come in handy for many people. It really depends on how you are going to use it. If you plan on being away from a wall socket much then that extra battery is priceless ;)

Add to "You get what you pay for" W3J is a extremly well built to last

Don't get me wrong I still am looking at the a8jm but the swap drive and extra battery are a deal maker for me :)

Yeah, just depends on what you're gonna use it for and your budget. For me, saving a few hundred dollars on the A8Jm was quite big, and I didn't really need 4 + hours battery life. On the other hand, if I had the extra cash, I prob would've gone W3J also just for the extra battery life.
