I've been looking in hte ASUS site and here on the forum, but I'm not familiar with ASUS models and the browsing/shopping is getting quite difficult...

is there some logic into the naming of the models?

What does G73, G53 etc stand for?

their site only allows browsing by model number, and not by screen size or specs...

    What are you looking for?

If you want a G unit, Note the G74 is coming.

So places like New Egg is selling the G73 at a lower cost..

Go with non Gest Buy models if you can, you get a longer warranty package....

Why are G73JH series so problematic? Anybody who is willing to buy a G73JH notebook would certainly put his hands off...

The problem was usually tied to the ATI cards and the driver updates. I haven't seen many places selling those JH models in quite some time since ASUS discontinued most of the line.

Get the new EeePad tablet! :) So so tired of Apple, I've decided to go against The Man.

Majority of the ASUS lineups are under $1000. You can get a BBY model of G53/G74 for less than a thousand dollars.

However, I'd recommend the N53SV. Sure, it is not as powerful as the G-series, but BBY watered down a lot of G-series' specification, and they only offer you a poor 1 year warranty.

Don't buy the BestBuy models of the G-Series. They're not worth the cost you save because you get a mediocre 768p/900p screen instead of full 1080p. Lower-res screens don't let you fit as much stuff onscreen at once, and severely gimp your multitasking productivity. Image quality is also noticeably downgraded if you were to compare the two.

The N53SV/N53SN is a great option under $1000, but *avoid* the N53SV-A1, N53SV-A2, N53SV-XE1, and N53SV-XR2 models because they have the junk screen. Look at the N53SV-XV1, N53SN-XV1, and N53SV-B1, and N53SV-B2 models that have the 1920x1080 display.

You can also look at the Sager NP5160 / NP5165 (Clevo W150HN / W150HR, Pollux 1411, 1455) because they're very comparable in spec to the N53 series.
