I want to connect my Asus G50 to my 32" Samsung LCD via HMDI. Thought it would be straight forward but for some reason its not working.

All is plugged in. I press Fn+F8. It brings up HDMI 3 different options.

    LCD
    HDMI
    LCD+HDMI

I assume using the LCD+HDMI would be the right one? Well tried on all 3 options but still nothing works.

    Here is my config:

When I actually click on APPLY, then it jumps back to the top option
    Only use one display (Single)

How do I get it to work?

(Note: Just for interest, I tested a normal VGA cable to LCD, and it picks up automatically and immediately, no hassles at all. Obviuosly I want to use HDMI for better image quality and also audio)

    LMAO @ Spam Poster.

The issue here is probably that the laptop isnt detecting the tv as accepting the connection and the fact that most Samsung's wont switch to an input unless it detects that a device is not only connected but the hdmi signal is being sent.

Just a guess but i know my samsung wont switch to the ps3's hdmi until the ps3 is on and transmitting already. I know that my old desktop wouldnt switch to s-video out if the tv wasnt already on. Seems like the case?

I am getting really frustrated with this issue. I will start to test each one seperately, the cable, my laptop and last my LCD screen. It's like a simple fart turned out to be a thunderstorm!

You should try to change nvidia driver, starting with 179.48 official.
Some drivers don't allow me to use multi-monitor (182.05 Dox if i recall)

Yes for issues like this definitly use the stock drivers that came with the unit for testing.

Try different modes also, isntead of clone mode, try the extending the desktop, and I would think the highest compatability would be with the use the TV as the primary and HDMI only mode that way you run the TV's resolution and not try to clone the laptops resolution.

Make sure the TV is on the right input mode already

And test the cable with another one if possible.

If you do all of that I am pretty sure you will get it working. I had a G50V-A1 and the HDMI worked fine on my 37" Westinghouse but my monitor is very friendly and meant for PC use.

I have the same issue with the M70Vn-c1, only one mode is compatible out of three, the remaining two are incompatible, I put it down to the nVidia graphics driver, but haven't had time to test other drivers. Thanks Thalanix, I'll try those drivers.

I think it might be a problem with my Samsung LCD rather than laptop, drivers or cable. Technician of Samsung coming onsite to repair, so will let you guys know what the outcome is. Thanx for all your replies so far.

PROBLEM SOLVED, but still need some info please! :)

    It was my cable.

Although my 32" LCD worked with the cable connected to a DVD player, my laptop DID NOT.

I tested ANOTHER HDMI cable with my laptop to 32" LCD and it worked!

So obviously, some HDMI cables will work with my laptop and some HDMI cables WONT work with my laptop.

Now the question, which HDMI cable should I get that will work? And also, what different types do you get?
I heard of A, B and C.. or not even sure. Need your knowledge! :)

    Thanx

(I will go to a tech shop anyway and speak to someone with HDMI knowledge when I buy the cable, but your comments will be appreciated)

Do you know which HDMI version the cable you used was?

Monoprice HDMI cables are good, as long as it complies with the HDMI 1.3b or c standard

Wow, that's surprising to hear. I have NEVER had a problem with HDMI cables and normally only buy the super cheap ones. The cable that I have (which works) is a Shaxon 10ft cable from Fry's and it's actually a good 1.3a version cable. It's shown here although many times during the year Fry's has them on sale for $3.99. The other place I would suggest is Monoprice.com. They make great cables at a very responsible price. I also have one of two of their 28AWG HDMI 1.3a Category 2 Certified Male to Male Cables.

The only thing that I can think is that you need a 1.3a HDMI cable other than that there *shouldn't* be a problem.

    Hope this helps!

HDMI 1.3b or c???? I didn't know there was such a thing. I couldn't find anything like it on Monoprice, do you have a link? I thought 1.3a was the best of the best right now.

According to Wiki there is 3 types, check under "Specifications - Connectors"
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Definition_Multimedia_Interface

The cable I was using was a ROSS brand, 2m cable. It doesnt say anything about 1.3 or 1.3a or 1.3b or anything. Just says High performance audio and video cable. I will swop my cable tomorrow and let you guys know what happens. THanx for the comments.

Wow, learn something new every day. I knew there were different connectors for portable devices like camcorders but I have no idea they went past the 1.3a spec. I am looking at the tables under "Versions", it looks like they now have 1.3a, b, b1, and c versions although it seems they all have the same functions unlike the version 1.0 thru 1.3 cables. I think if you get any version 1.3a (or better) cable with Type A connectors you should be good.

Im using a $10 HDMI v1.3 cable and it works perfectly.

The ROSS cable you were using might have been outdated, or just outright crap.

I'll cast my vote for monprice.com I get all my cables there now if they have them, really good prices and quality items. Also they ship fast.

Glad you tested another cable, that was one of the things I said you needed to do :p

This is not the first time I have seen a bad or wrong hdmi cable.
