Hi all. So my search for a new notebook has brought me to ASUS. My Dell died recently and I've been searching for a replacement. I want a computer that will allow me to accomplish everyday things, in addition to school work (I'm a college student) and allow me to do some gaming on the side. I'm interested in the M50vm-B2. I've never owned an ASUS product before, but I've heard that the quality is good, is this true? Also, I've noticed that many of the ASUS resellers offer a 7200rpm 320gb HDD upgrade. Is this an ASUS upgrade or an upgrade preformed by the reseller? If so does it effect the warranty in any way? Any other information I should be aware of? I took a peek at the info booth and that seemed to answer most of my other questions, but if I have any more, I'll be sure to post them here. Thanks for all your input! :D

H.D.D. upgrades won't affect your warranty, so don't worry about that. I do suggest you check some reviews on the 7200rpm 320gB hard drive you're hoping to purchase though. The B2 has a 500GB hard drive, and it is quite fast. It's actually faster then a 7200RPM Seagate HDD that I own, despite being 5400RPM.

I have to say the quality is exceptional. My previous ASUS laptop (G1S) was defective and after 5 repair attempts they gave me the B2 as a replacement and I'm wowed by it.

This is definitely a good gaming laptop, don't expect the gaming speed of the G50, but in terms of desktop performance in a laptop (while maintaining an actual mobile cpu) this is at the top of the pack.

Thanks for the feedback. It's interesting to hear that (in your case at least) the 500gb is faster than the 320. I would much rather have speed over size - I can't really imagine using all 500gb, my old Dell only had 120gb of space  Does anyone think an upgrade to Vista 64bit is worth it to fully utilize the 4gb of ram?

Also, while I'm thinking about it, the 500gb drive, is that a single drive or 2x250gb drives?

    On the M50VM-B2 it's a single drive.
