The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

squawks, there is no need to distinguish anybody from somebody, because, frankly, it's impossible. However, I feel the best thing you can do is to research multiple sources, and summarzise the results from those. That way, you can distinguish the outliers and biases.
Notebook reviews are very difficult because one may say they have the best notebook solely because no one really wants to think bad of their 1k+ investment or simply one does know there is any better notebook outhere (that's why they think they have the best).
It's called relative deprivation; poor people do not respect millionares, but they respect other poor people who just so happen to be a bit richer than them.

Actually you know the best way to determine answers to your questions?

    ... anybody?

Search the forum.... If you ask a question, you have to have an inherent trust in the people that will answer you to begin with.... If you don't, I guess you'd just be wasting everyone's time if you asked a question and then if you weren't happy with the answers you just chalked it up to one of those reasons.

Now, on the other hand if you search through the forum for opinions and answers to other questions, you not only have better chance at believing their validity, but you also get to see follow up upon follow up to those answers to see if anyone else disagrees with those opinions, or if anything has changed over time. Basically, when you ask a question, you're going to get an answer by the people who want to asnwer you..... trust me, they're not always the best people to answer your questions and unless you know their background and experience... you could be accepting an answer from a 12 year kid that doesn't own an Asus computer but it dying for his parents to get him one........ or a 65 year old grandmother that has $400 to spend on a laptop to get emailed pictures of her grandkids once a week...... You really never know who's behind some of the handles and I certainly know you can't trust everyone, but if you trust no one you'll never get anywhere... So you need to pick a happy medium.
