So I sent the zalman cooler I had back to newegg on an RMA mission. It would once in a while blow air on the left or not blow air at all.
I ordered a new bottom panel as well from the asus estore so I figured why not play around with the current one?
I took an inch and a half in diameter circular bit drill and placed a nice hole where the fan meets the panel. I separated the fan from the rest of the system by ripping out the foam lines which help support the 2nd hdd, no need for those since I am never going to use 2 hdds.
Heres some pics
A bit sloppy but it is a first try.
(the drill was a bit off it slipped without me noticing.)

So far at idle the gpu is at 42-45C, cpu at 53C, ACPI at 41-42C, and HDD at 38C. This is with the laptop running for 30 mins now on the web.
I'll post some gaming temps later on when I get a chance to play some games.

Hm, I was almost positive that grille on the bottom was a subwoofer (LOL JK) I mean air intake...
Is that where your zalman cooler fan lines up? I'm just wondering if it's going to mess with your airflow. Maybe not in a bad way though? -
I was realy scared it would mess up the "vacuum" which asus designed the laptop to create for cooling but with a new panel only 8 bucks why not try!
With the focus of the fan now on only the cpu and gpu it cools it through the copper plates and not cooling the surface of them so the temps actually remain the same when not on a cooler, The hdd, ram also stay the same amazingly. The hdd does not pass 40C.
The zalman cooler I just sent back for a replacement lines up on all the vent holes on the panel and right below the hole I made so the temps should go down a good amount, I can't wait until I get the cooler to try it out.
The biggest difference I found was that I don't feel the fan vibrating underneath my left hand when I play fps games, it used to drive me insane. -

OMG yes, that fan vibration kills me. I have to constantly try and flex the side of the G50 to get it to stop...
Make sure to post an update when you get the cooler, it's neat you ripped the bottom apart for the sake of cooling -
Yea the vibration is horrible. So far the gpu temp reached 87C while running 3dmark06 2 times in a row. I placed my hand over the keyboard and no vibration though so that's a big plus. I'll post some temps with the back of the laptop raised up later when I get a chance.

So.... whats cooling your ram?
-
Nothing ram is cool as is. You don't have to worry too much about it. Many notebooks don't have cooling specified for the ram modules.
-
With the back raised a little bit I get stable 41C on the gpu.
-
you could of just pulled off the black tape cover.
-
I hate when people tell me to go search for the proper threads lol so I'll repeat it to you. Umm so behind the black tape is the rest of the panel, half an inch of pure plastic. The mesh like grill is a design if you look closely, not mesh to allow airflow in. The black tape is there for 2 reasons. To fool you and to help the fan vacuum all the air throughout the laptop easier. I simply left the plastic, drilled a hole and blocked off the hole with foam so the fan can suck air directly from the hole, instead of being partially from the hole and laptop.
I wouldn't recommend doing this for anyone who wants to game without cooler, since the gpu core is cooled through the copper heatsinks and only through the heatsinks, the surface will get a bit hotter. For instance my gpu did not pass 86C playing l4d but the left palm rest(located on the gpu) felt pretty warm. The cooler helps keep the surface of the laptop cool while the fan directly sucks the cool air being pumped from the cooler. -
The black tape thing on the G1S was a disaster, though.
-
Yea the whole tape thing is a mess, who knew what the designer was thinking.
