Now that there is a lot of Core 2 Duo notebooks out, and a lot of people have upgraded their Core Duo machines to Core 2, what is the general consensus, does Core 2 suck more battery than Core Duo? From what I recall, they were marketed as being more energy efficient. I have my new T7200 CPU, just haven't swapped out my W3Js T2500 yet.

    Regards to all.

They should draw very nearly the same amount of power.

Make sure you properly apply thermal paste when you replace the CPU.

To be more exact 10% more power consumption along with 10% performance.

No, Intel wantn't to create the Core 2 Duo with the same power requirements of the older Core Duo, but they also wants a slight 10 to 20% increase in performance. So, in theory the energy requirements of both processors should be the same.

However, a difference of a few minutes may present itself to you if you use both systems, with similar specifications. That may be because of the cache some of the faster Core 2 Duo use. Both processors can turn sections of their cache off, but it would largely depend on the workload and application on the processor, which determines how much cache is truned off. In either case, the difference is very small, and other component, like the graphics card and hard disk, may have a more profound effect.

I think everyone is saying the same thing :)

The C2Ds give generally about 10% better performance than an equally clocked CD.

Therefore, both processors may last 2 hours, for example, but a C2D system (assuming the same hardware as the CD) should allow you to do 10% more in the same given time frame.

Of course this all varies depending on the application, but 10% seems to be the general base line.

That may be true from a CPU perspective, but I've noticed a recent downward trend in battery life for Asus models overall. For instance, the new V2 will barely do 3:30 on a 9-cell battery!

the TDP of the T2500 is 31W, that of the T7200 is 34w. How that translates to actual usage is another question, but at least it's an indication.
