Dear all,
I have raised this question a while ago and was wondering if there was any news when Asus may launch Duo 2 Notebooks?
Intel are just about to release the Duo CPU and this is the reason for me holding out on buying a notebook for the time being.
Thanks in advance.

Heh, theres realy 2 parts to the core 2 release, first coming late this year which will be compatible with current core 1 socketed sysetems. Sometime next year the 2nd series of the duo 2 will come with, some quite possibly(and quite possibly not) significant upgrades to the fsb mainly.
On a side note, many asus are already known they will need a bios update, as probobly will quite a number of other core 1 systems.
Id fish up some links... but my rpg is calling, shoudlnt be hard to find the with a quick search in this forum. -
Well, the chip is being released in September, so wait like 2 months and then it will be available, so in November. Or you could buy a laptop now, and pop in a Merom CPU when they become available or when your warranty dies.
The second Phase of Core 2 Duo is code namedd Santa Rosa, and uses a different socket design than the current Core Duos and Merom Core 2 Duos. -
Worth mentioning is that the core 2 cpu Intel are releasing in July is a desktop cpu, not a notebook one (Although I bet we'll see some notebooks with them), the actual notebook cpu release is probably around August/September

No official news yet...but like ric3 said best guess is November.

if i were you, or i guess what i did is i just bought a laptop now with core duo. It is a very good processor and probably isn't worth an immediate upgrade. THen, in about a year or two, you can stick merom in with a bios update and you're all set. Otherwise, if you're going to wait for merom, you should wait til santa rosa comes out.
