Shouldn't the Intel Core Duo Price drops be today? So far only gentechpc's has changed their prices on Core Duo CPUs... No Canadian retailers yet.. Mhmm, maybe they empty out their stock before they change their prices?

I really wanted one at like the end of June, but my parents are pushing me to wait till August before I can order my laptop. Apparently, they think prices are gunna drop down even futher and there will be "back to school" savings for laptops. Personally, i don't really care... I just want to enjoy my laptop for the summer.

Yea, graduating highschool. I don't think Ill work this summer as I couldn't get a job so far, and I dont really want to anyway, despite the fact that I would really need the money.. But I'd like to sit in my backyard and chill out on a laptop while playing games or doing some studying :)

Unfortunately, IDK what's going on yet.. Hopefully I can pressure my parents into buying it a few weeks before the school starts ;)

Mmmm, graduating here too^^ also with the summer joblessness, though for me it's because I've basically given up on the idea of anyone wanting to hire me so I don't even try anymore. Luckily though my dad was all like 'whatever you choose' cause forcing me to make my own decisions is his theme right now or whatever

Normally I'd say they won't change, but that may be only with the Ensemble models (I'm speculating of course).

At the very least, maybe it will save you a few buck towards upgrading the CPU in your barebones?

Yeah, the college is smaller then my high school. I'm a person of...many interests (Majoring in English but wanna take classes in history, phycology, poli sci, comp sci, art, etc^^)

I was actually strongly considering applying to Toronto. But getting financial aid when you're a foreign student is hard, plus mother was REALLY against it. It's def. a sexy school in a sexy country though^^

I agree, the school is very large, i think 84,000 students from all over the world. The bad side is there are a lot of commuters and it lacks that school spirit. It's more of a work environment where everyone tries to step on everyone else. It is an "arts and science" school, so it definately has a lot of arts programs ;)

You should have applied imho.. :)

OT: Mystery... prob none of my business, but speaking from experience just wanted to give a suggestion. Don't take a degree just because somebody else suggests to you even though it might be your family, no matter how good it might sound. Take it because you like it, or you might regret it later on in life.

Good money won't mean a thing if you're unhappy with your job. If you're happy with your job, you'll be better at it, and the money will follow :)

^ Im a money driven male-b!tch. I'm very jaded and as long as something makes money, I'm happy with it. My parents say "you'll get soo used to hating business, that in the end, you will be used to hating it. So in the end, you'll actually wind up loving the familiar, which is hating it."

So what's stopping you from making money from something you like? Who's to say by taking business you'll be making more money than... say for example if you truly liked Engineering.. took it and made more money in it.

My point is... you can make money in anything you do if you keep at it, and even more if you're good at it, so might as well be in something you like no?

Heh.. getting very Off topic here :)

I mostly agree. Like, if you take buisness classes and find you like em, awesome. But if you end up hating it, it's silly to go into that career, to me. The way I see it, you only have one life (that's definite. Personal spiritual beliefs aside), and it's silly to waste much of it doing something that makes you unhappy only so that you have a lot of money, much of it which you might not spend, and which you cant take with you when you die anyway. Money DOES make life a hell of a lot nicer, but if you're spending much of your time doing something you hate, it wont make you that happy. Better to make a bit less and be happy with what you do, methinks. Though of course if you like it AND it makes lots of money, then awesome for you.

Then again, I'm not a good person to talk to about this kind of thing, since I'm basically taking classes soley on what interests me, have no plans or ideas for a career, and don't particularly care. I live for the present and like knowledge for it's own sake. Eh, long as I'm not homeless and can afford a few nice clothes and jewelries and gadgets I'm good^^

I think I have different beliefs and needs. I want to become very rich, so I can affort to build a very nice house while I'm still young, and run a harem ;)
I absolutely love women and I want to be able to have at least 4 or so girls in the same time. (not necessarily in the same bed at the same time), but I'm saying, I want to have variation :)

I think that's my main life goal. I dont belive in religion although I have been baptised, I do belive sex can make everything much better though

lol polyamorous much are we? Eh, as long as everyone knows everything and agrees with it, whatever makes ya happy^^

Yeah, not religious either. Don't really have a goal or anything. I'm more a live for the present type person. It's like, for all I know I might get run over by a truck tommorow, so might as well make the most of today. I put more effort, thought, and concern into choosing a laptop and planning the lip ring I'm gonna get next month then I did in applying to college XD

Lmao me too. I don't really have a "goal" in life. But i know i love being with women. And I will continue to do so as long as my ... abilities ... will want to.

I'm not monogamous in any way, in fact, I don't care if the girls i sleep with are sleeping around either. Everyone should do whatever they want to be happy. A job is a job, eventually it gets boring anyway, no matter what you decide to do.

My parents always complain their job ends so quickly, they never have any idea how fast time goes by. At least if you have a boring job, you feel like you've lived longer in the end. :D

Oh well.. to each person his/her own :)

Anywhooo... back to Core Duo price drops ... I thought someone mentioned that it was already factored in to the current lineup of notebooks.. I must have been misinformed.... prob should've waited till July to get my A8Jm... would've saved 1% on GST and a few bucks on the Core Duo...maybe $100 or so :)

yeah, I'm totally not the possesive type either. For me it's like, as long as both people are allowed to be non-monogamous, it's all good (the femenist in me hates the whole double standard of the man is allowed to cheat but the woman is a slut. It's like, if you can, I can.) Sort of highly amused by the idea of swingers actually. Minus the watching part. And um, this is getting way off topic and dont wanna break forums rules, so yeah. I'd feel worse about hijacking the topic if it wasn't for the fact that it's yours, though.

i'd probably work at a job I didn't like much, if I needed the money enough, though it depends (like, I wouldn't work for something that goes against my principles (a pro-life church group, etc), something I really hate doing (math-related, lol) or something that disgusts me (fast food type **** -- why I have no job, really), but a career I feel should be something...enjoyable. And yeah.

I'm guessing the price drop takes longer to effect ensembles?

I know the S96J I ordered came with the price drop factored in (even got a small refund after they officially changed the prices and turns out I paid a bit more cos when I ordered they sort of estimated the price drop, I guess)

ensembles usually don't have price drops. instead they increase some spec to make up the difference of some component dropping price.

Your parents may be on to something there, Mystery... According to this report, notebooks sales out of Taiwan have been slower than expected over the last couple of months, so a price war is possible as manufacturers try to clear their back inventory. If so, this will probably happen before August, so you may still get to spend summer together yet. ;)

I dont think that's gunna be on the models that just came out. The most these models will drop is 10% and the S96J is already 650$ .. Which is cheap. The parts that are costy are the ram, hds and CPU.. The Cpu is falling rite now, the ram and HD's tend to go up in priced around school starting for some reason.

I've noticed the A6J's coming down in price in Australia too. I'm hoping they discount the V6J at some stage too, it's still hovering around $3000 AUD.
