For some reason, my ATI driver got corrupted on my V6, and after windows start up the screen goes black, but the system is working fine. It’s almost like switching off LCD screen\. Anyway, I tried starting in a /Safe Mode, VGA mode, last know configuration/ with no results. I connect my V6 to external monitor and it’s also black. I also tried “blindly” reinstalling the ATI driver from a CD, but I’m not getting anywhere. Of course, if I start Windows XP recovery off the CD, the screen is fine, but I don’t want to wipe my windows.

Anyway, has anyone experienced this problem? How can I reinstall my ATI driver “blindly” without reinstalling the whole windows? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks a lot !

Is it possible that your GPU is broken/malfunctioning, because if you tried booting in safe mode and using an external monitor with no luck, your video card is probably messed up.

Thanks, I created auto run CD with ATi driver and it didn't work either, so I had to reinstall Windows. Anyway, it's all good now. Thanks,

Can you hook up an external monitor and see anything that way? If you can, you need to look at the screen...

If you can see a post screen when you boot up, you know all the little characters and letters then your screen is not broken and it is a software issue. You can get into safe mode as it boots up keep presing f8 (or is it f5?). Log into safe mode then uninstall the vga driver from device manager, then simply restart. If your screen is still black in safe mode i would call that very ominous. This can happen on desktops very easily i havent really seen it too much on laptops

The other easy way to check (or maybe not so easy) would be to use a live disc, that is always a check video card check. If it works on the live CD, you have an install issue in windows.
