Hello,
I have been having issues with my notebook more accurately blue screens. Now i have contacted ASUS on the matter and i am going to have the machine RMA'd
Now i have read the conditions but it mentions that cosmetic damage causes the warranty to be instantly void. Now some months ago my notebook fell whilst in my bag causing some minor scratches to the back of the screen. Does this mean my warranty is completely void and i will have to pay for any replacement parts on the notebook as well as shipping and handling fees? Or does it simply mean they will not replace the scratched panel?
Please lend me a hand on this one..

No, I think it's more like if they can realate the cosmetic damage with the problem, for exemple if you dropped it obveously, and you got a problem with the HD, they can void the waranty, as you are the problem and not the notebook by itself.

so what, i am going to have to pay the amount for whatever they replace then?
But as i said it is only a very minor scratch to the back panel itself, will they void it for something so small? -
I dont think they would void for minor cosmetic problem. The scratch due to normal use are normal, and cannot void a waranty. For what you said, those minor scratch shouldnt do everything. Asus is knowed for their good waranty services, I realy dont think they will try to void your waranty for nothing.
Good luck with the RMA -

would it be worth taking a picture and posting it to see what you guys think about it?
Also they ask for it to be returned in its original packaging but i don't have that. What should i use instead?
After i have sent the RMA forum, will they phone to discuss pick up times, if so would i be able to tell them about it and get them to send something to package in and i pay for that?
Thanks for the help =) -
I think that if the guy in phone said to RMA it, do it. Just dont talk to them about how it happen until they ask question about it( witch shouldnt happen).
Other than that, for the case I think it's just to protect the notebook in the transport, since they are not responsable to damage due to transport. Try pack it very well, with foam, buble wrap to be snug in the carton box. It should be perfect. For what I know the waranty for actual Asus laptop include shipping by fedex for the 2 way. This will bring a pickup date and everythings. Once they agreed the RMA, they should contact you about this. -

i have upgraded the memory too, should i just put my old stuff in and not mention that either?
What happens if they don't agree the RMA, am i then to pay for the repairs?
Pictures below are of the surface oif my notebook, to give an idea of the damage..
What do you think of it? Void, or not? -
well...On the first post you said you already talked to them and they are going to RMA it. That must mean they will contact you with pickup information once you do what they asked you to(forum? formulaire?)
Other than that, changing memory dont void waranty. As long as you didint changed other things than memory and hard drive, you should be ok -

No i havn't, changed anything else. On the RMA form it mentions "Any upgrade for this machine, etc, RAM, HDD" should i fill in "none" there, since i will be changing my memory back?

cosmetic means obvious structural damage that can not be repaired via a paint job. Such as broken/cracked chassis parts.

so that means the scratch and and minor dent i have will be fine by ASUS then, and they will honour the warranty and just fix my notebook?
I do however think they will charge me for new packaging when they are sending it back as it does state they may charge me in the warranty. -

if you are in the states there is no expense to you.

no, im in the UK so there might be something to cover the packaging they are telling me.
-
You will most likely not be charged for the packaging they send the notebook back in. It's different than the original packaging anyway (they use a standard nondescript carton box for laptops, at least in the Netherlands that's how it is).
Your cosmetic damage will probably be not even taken into account by the tech support. Do not mention it yourself unless they ask about it.
As somebody already suggested, just use a normal carton box, but be sure that notebook is kept fixed inside the box, and is well protected from shock (shipping by mail can get quite rough). Include a copy of the original receipt of purchase (although that's not necessary, might be a good idea).
About the RAM: if you still have it, I suggest replacing your new RAM with the old one such that the computer is in the configuration you bought it with. -

Right that will be great then.. and i was definitly going to but my old RAM back in too.
Where can i mention what i have done to fix the problem so far? should i add that to my RMA form so they have a written copy of what i have tried? Or is it not worth it? -
Dude...you're fine...that's nothing...don't even bring up that you dropped it...
-
... is this a joke? They're not even gonna notice those "scratches". Also, at least in America, Asus covers RMAd shipping both ways so I opted for faster delivery in a more protected/cushioned box, just in case.

P.S. - I RMAd a notebook with an entirely upgraded processor and didn't hear one word about it...
