asus probe. You can find them under the new motherboard support section. Intel has a util as well. Have not tried it on laptops but its said to work with all 945 and 955 chipsets.

I am having difficulty installing Asus PC Probe. I downloaded version 2.2502 for 23 bit systems and keep getting an error "Can't Load AsmiEnum.dll". Can someone give me a direct link to the most up to date version? How can I solve this error?

try Notebook Hardware control or speedfan. Both are great.

Try downloading the version off Asus' web site - it's under the Util tab after you enter the notebook model (use w3 series) near the bottom. It's v2.11, but I've got it working fine on my z63 (W3a). See if that helps.

NHC or Asus Probe are best. Asus Probe is a simple exe file that hangs out in your taskbar and doesn't require you to install other support software (it monitors your cpu temp and fan rpm), unlike NHC which requires .NET 2.0 for installation. However, NHC gives you the ability to both monitor your cpu/hdd temps (no fan monitor), and will also allow undervolting of cpu and underclocking of ATI gpu.

Speedfan will only detect cpu temp on Asus models, due to non-supported motherboards. Many on this forum have reported conflicts between SF and the gpu fans, which seem in some cases to be *shut down* by the software  My advice - ditch SF and use one of the two others.

Careful with SpeedFan, it causes fans to stop running at times. It did it to my machine (my CPU went to 94C). I wouldn't recommend it.

I'd suggest NBProbe / NHC like others have said.

Hey, thanks. The install worked but when I try to run the program I get an error: "Monitoring dll loading fails" and the program is unable to monitor anything. Everything is N/A. Any solution?

Also, is there a more updated version?

No, I haven't. I don't know where to download it. I tried google, but NHC wasn't specific enough for a search.

You can also go o software forums and look under "best free programs for windows" (or somethin like that). It is sticky and it should be on top. Check it out. They have a link to that website. I have HNC and it works great. Lets you check temps, but unfortunately will not you undervotl to really low volts. I believe something like 6x 0.9555 is the low as you can go, because Intel has restriction on that. Pentium M could have been lower. I think people reported like 0.700 but it will not work for Core Duo.

It is a nice software. Check it out

Thanks! I downloaded HNC and it seems to work well. There's a lot of settings there. Can anyone tell me what is the most optimal setting for an A8Jm?

I nearly cooked my W3J, I closed the lid and I went out to get some resin to fix my surfboard, I came back 40 mins later, opened the lid and there was an error on screen (obviously it tried to hibernate and something got mucked up and it must have shut down some components and not others).

I Ctr+Alt+Del to login again, which it did, I opened mobilmeter and it registered 90deg!!! and the fan was not running, so I shut down restarted and the fan burst on fill speed until the temp dropped to a stable 51deg.

Anyway, It has been fine in the past, I am sure this was juat a one off.

NZWaveRider: Do you have SpeedFan installed by any chance? Get rid of it !!! . It causes fans to stop working on notebooks. Did so on my A8Jm, and my CPU went to 94C...

The only program I have is MoblieMeter it runs on demand, it is just an exe file.

It was not running mobilemeter at the time, so I am sure it must have been a problem when it was attempting to hibernate?

it was really noticable though, the palm rest and chassis were really hot, something I will keep an eye on.
