Someone spilt Chrysanthemum Tea on my ASUS A8Jr. Now after drying it, it turned on and functioned OK, except for the keyboard which goes bonkers, randomly typing letters and repeating them, then suddenly changing to another letter. The touchpad also is dead, reinstalling the drivers won't work. Please advise me on what I can do to fix the problem. I don't really like taking apart the entire laptop. Is there any way to just disconnect the entire keyboard to stop it from going mad?

How much will it cost to send it in to ASUS and ask them to fix the issue, while not telling them about the liquid issue, only saying the keyboard and touchpad is spoilt. Add in a broken hinge, how much would it cost in total to repair the problems?

If the drink is acidic or any sugar it will mess it up since it's one of the touch sensitive pad keyboards.

What I do is take apart the keyboard. Pain you gotta get each key off the scissor things off. Then you wash the touch panel and let it dry off. Re-assemble and should be fine.

But keyboards are surprisingly cheap on some models, I've seen on Asus model's keyboard for $20. Just call Asus and they will find out for you what product number you need etc.

If it's still in your standard 1 year accidental, it will cost you nothing to send it in for repairs.

Will the sugar mess up the motherboard? Do I need to just wash the keyboard keys individually and not remove the entire keyboard and dry it? How do you wash the touchpad (use finger to guide mouse, not touchscreen)?

The model is 3 years old and it's already out of the 2 year warranty. Can someone give an estimated cost?

Estimated cost ~50 USD if you replace both kbd and touchpad from the ASUS eStore.

But try washing and drying first, sometimes it helps. Don't let the sugar settle in there with the heat, do it fast.

I don't dare to open the entire thing to get to the motherboard.

I'm having the same issue after spilling coffee on my keyboard. Just the "delete" key appears to be getting stuck, but after pressing any other key, it stops for a couple seconds.

I need to try to get a new keyboard for this, but I can't find the "eStore" from Asus anywhere that it's working. Seems to be dead-links everywhere.

If anyone knows where I can get a replacement, it'd be greatly appreciated.

I myself tried ebay but couldn't find it. May be me not searching correctly, but I did contact Asus and apparently their site is down.

I'll wait for their site to be up again so I can check the prices.

Asus NA has never had a storefront at Ebay; the eStore is through their corporate site, which you can find through Google ("Asus eStore").

Else, search "Asus A8 keyboard" @ ebay -- I got 61 listings for replacements.

Don't touch the motherboard. Just the keyboard.

But I've read that the sugar in the drink will kill the motherboard sooner or later.

Just went to the service center. Motherboard: S$840, keyboard: S$120 and screen crack: free. Service charge is 60. Damn it! Decided not to fix the laptop and let it die.
