Okay, so I bought the Asus G72 yesterday from Bestbuy. Took it home, removed some of the "Bestbuy" games and applications which were already installed. I did not install an antivirus program (It supposedly came with a trial version of one). I did play a few games and they worked fine. I downloaded a few things however despite the security risk. I put the machine into hibernate last night and everything seemed to be fine. This morning, I booted up the computer in express gate and everything was fine. Until I commanded express gate to shut down and open the OS. The screen loads fine and I can click on my icon and enter my password. However, after that this blue screen shows up, with words.
It then restarts with the "Windows Error Recovery screen. Even if I go into safe mode with networking, it restarts. Is there anyone who can give me some advice with this? I'm new to windows computers. I will reinstall the os if need be. I did not make a back up because I did not have the dvds.

Can someone just tell me how to wipe the hard drive and start fresh?

Also, on the blue screen. It says "System cannot recover from uncorrectable harware error."

Download vista/windows7 iso .. dvd it (if you don't have it already) .. boot it .. when choosing hdd just wipe all partition and install it on a newly created one.
You may got corrupted files/sectors on the hdd, or something may went bad.

Or you can take it back to Best Buy and get a brand new one. They'll give you one since you just bought it yesterday and it's already fubar'd.

The G72 comes with a recovery partition which can be accessed by pressing the F9 key at boot up. The user manual is available for download at support.asus.com. Page 15 of the PDF tells you how to do the recovery.

Thanks guys, I've got it running. My only concern now is that I don't want a computer with a hardware problem that's going to die on me later down the road. I really love this computer so far. So, should I exchange it since it's virtually free? Or is there anyway that I can myself, check to see if there is a hardware malfunction somewhere? Like... an application which can check the health of the processor... motherboard, gpu, harddrive (which I'm going to change out anyway)?

I have found 8 out of 10 times the trouble with my computers tends to be the video card drivers. Windows inherently keeps track of hardware, software and driver problems plus a whole lot more in a log that you can access by typing event viewer in the start search bar. I also read that you don't have a virus scanner loaded. Try Microsoft security essentials. It is free and does a admirable job with out being a resource hog. Win 7 should tell you what the problem was after it boots back up successfully also.

Thanks for telling me about Microsoft security essentials! I did open event viewer... there where literally hundreds of different problems that showed up in the past 24 hours. If I'm trying to make sure that the hardware is not damaged, what should I be looking for specifically?

Your welcome :) . Yes there is a whole lot of info that is tracked by windows, which is a good thing. Well, I only pay attention to the Hard Drives, Video chip, and processor. I have found the asus tool NB probe does well for me but there are other programs that would give you much info in a better format then the sys log. For video card temps and performance try Riva Tuner (i personally like evga's version of this tool). For CPU performance and monitoring try CPUz or win 7's built in tool: resource monitor. I could tell you about more but it is probably best for you to research and discover them for yourself.
