I have the DVD in front of me. All I gotta do is boot from it. I would like to cross over due to the 4GB rams I just installed. I looked on the Asus website and I see that there is no support. I have some questions, hopefully someone can help me:
1. Will my 32bit Vista Asus ressource DVD install some of the drivers?
2. Are there any issues with: Office 2007, Adobe CS4 Master?
3. 64 bit users, is there a huge difference?
That is it for now.
Cheers,
Wish...

When i went from 32 bit XP >> to 32bit vista>> then to 64bit Vista i felt no difference in application, no of them has crashed or smth. everything is very well. allthough I did full format of hdd ..

Careful with a 64bit upgrade and digitizing video to hard drive. Some camera drivers have not supported 64bit OS as yet and I have had to dual boot a 32bit vista to do my capturing. Otherwise, its great, no crashes, no downtime, no need to reboot.

I am aware I need to fully format. What about the drivers? There is nothing on the Asus website
. I doubt 32 bit drivers will work on a 64 bit OS
.

I don't know about Adobe CS4 but CS3 runs fine on x64.
Most new devices come with x64 driver now, so you should be fine.
I havent had any problems running x64.
Do you have a model number?
DO'H got it in your signature! -
Not yet. -
Wierd that ASUS don't have x64 drivers for you model. Write them a mail, and ask for them.

. I should bend their ear

Unfortunately.
Any "oh it's faster!" is a placebo affect most experience. Any 64-bit benefits are humanly negligible, and 0.5GB of extra RAM does not increase speed, at ALL.
RAM != speed, I've learned this after so long. I do not love RAM anymore. Especially in laptops, its no where near as important as in desktops. -
I've noticed small things...for example when I open windows explorer and browse to a folder with 1000 images in thumbnail view - the previews open a bit quicker on x64 than x32. Stability wise, I've never had problems with 32bit so I can't say there's an improvement with 64 bit. Drivers are the main concern, I've had to replace some external hardware hubs I was using.

Well, I am contacting Asus to see if they have some drivers for my model. -
Asus confirmed that the U6 does not have x64 drivers. Maybe in the near future.

I was thinking of that too. Where can I find the driver for the Keyboard, Fingerprint reader??
-
Are we talking Vista 32 to Vista 64? In that case, for recent models (including the Montevina "V"-suffixed models) it is often the case that all the drivers on the CD are actually 32/64 bit dual drivers.
They are not advertised by ASUS, and they may still not officially support 64bit, but they often work.
I am not sure that will be the case with your U6 S model, but maybe it's worth a try. For instance try dual booting first, and only after you are confident that x64 works well, make it your main system.
That being said, I agree that .5GB RAM difference does not have a tremendous effect on real-life performance.
Keyboard does not require drivers. Fingerprint I don't know. -
By Keyboard drivers I meant the short cuts and whatnot
. If the V-series has an identical Keyboard and the there is an ATK on 64 bit on the Asus website I will give it a go.
I want to move on 64 not only because of the .5 MB RAM difference. I already played with a CS4 Master on x64 Ultimate and it moved better than on x86.
L.E. U6Vc has an ATK driver on 64 bit. I also need POWER4Gear and the Wi-Fi console. The rest I am sure I can avoid. Will it work on my U6S?
-
For the keyboard shortcuts you need ATK drivers and the ATK Hotkey utility.
I cannot say whether the U6V ATK drivers and Hotkey will work for U6S, but you can give it a try. Before that, though, try the drivers on your CD.
The U6V utilities are more likely to work than the drivers. So I would definitely give them a try.
Crossing over from x86 to x64
