I'm trying to look at ASUS systems, but it sure is not easy! They have so many different models, and their website does a horrible job of helping an ASUS newbie understand what the differences are, at least from what I've found so far. I tried to find a pre-sales number to call to narrow it down, but I could find nothing but post-sales contact info.

So two questions. Can you customize these systems on their website? If so, can someone post a link or explain how to do that? I've been able to do that on Toshiba, Sony and Lenovos websites, so surely ASUS must have that too?

Is there anyway to contact ASUS by phone with pre-sales questions? If so, can someone kindly give me a number or url to that info?

    Thanks much

ASUS doesn't sell directly, you buy their notebooks from resellers, be it Best Buy, New Egg or whatnot. Here's a list of their licensed resellers:

    Where to buy

All ASUS notebooks are prebuilt, you cannot customize it directly from ASUS. Some resellers do customize the laptop for you, but you will void the warranty if its something like the processor. Again, almost all notebooks are prebuilt in Taiwan, where ASUS's HQ and warehouse is.

Each specific ASUS region, for example, ASUS Canada, ASUS France, ASUS Japan, etc. have their own HQ where they choose what notebooks they think are best for their demographic customer base. One example, might be for one of their Gaming laptops, they realize that their target customer base relies on low price but high performance, so they opt to put in a smaller 250gb HD and 4gb of RAM, while another region may go with a 1TB HD and 8gb of RAM because their target demographic can afford that.

For pre-sales information, forums like NBR have alot of information, as well as resellers, more specifically the ASUS oriented ones, like the fine resellers that help out in the ASUS forums here.

Best of luck with your search!
