I have an Asus W3V came with 512 DD2 Ram. Wonder if I can add one more 1GB DDR2 or is better to add 512 DDR2. Because i saw this from sony website about the 2 modules have to been same capicity inorder for better performance. Is it true?

*If memory modules of the same capacity are installed to both of the two memory module slots, computer will run in dual channel mode and provide better performance.

So far, the benefits of dual channel RAM have not been evident. Tom's Hardware looked at the V6 http://www6.tomshardware.com/mobile/20050119/sonoma_alviso-23.html .

    I also made tests on my W3A when I upgraded from 2 x 256MB to 1 x 256MB + 1 x 1024MB.

SiSoftware Sandra memory tests showed that 1 x 1024MB was slightly faster (because it is a 533MHz unit). In theory, the 2 x 256MB should run as dual channel and be the fastest. I also used OSmark from http://www.vanshardware.com/ because this includes some graphics tests. This showed the highest overall benchmark result with the highest RAM combination.

It is also worthwhile noting that my W3A's BIOS thinks that it is running my asymmetric RAM configuration as dual channel, so something somewhere isn't right.

Is anyone seeing RAM speed higher than about 2750MB/s (as measured by SiSoftware Sandra)? I am getting about 2550MB/s with my current configuration.

Jack I just notice that you double posted this question, please aviod doing this in the future as it makes it difficult for those replying with answers to know what has or hasn't already been said. Your question will be answered, and usually very quicky so just be a bit paitient.
I'm locking this one as there are more answers in the other thread
    thankyou

Unless you really need the 1.5Gb of ram then I think that adding 512 would be the best way to go...you should get dual channel which should give you a slight increase in memory speed over single channel. And the main reason is that DDR2 sodimm are still expensive, and a 1Gb DDR2 stick is gonna set you back alot of money, personally I think that the small increase in performance that you would see over a dual channel 2X512 isn't worth the money.
