Hey guys, I'm new to the forums but thought I'd drop by to ask a question: I'm thinking of getting the Asus G60VX with the GTX card in it and the centrino 2. Everything in it seems fine but i'm a little concerned with the fact that it has DDR2 instead of DDR3. Will I be struggling in the future to upgrade my RAM or do you guys think the DDR2 will be fine for long enough in the future? Also, I noticed at best buy this computer has the Centrino 2 instead of just the Core 2 Duo, what's the difference? Thanks in advance for any help.

You can upgrade to 8GB, that's it. No performance upgrades are possible.

"Centrino" is just Intel marketing/ branding that includes a bunch of Intel components in one PC (Chipset, wifi, CPU). Google for more information - but it is irrelevant for the most part.

DDR3's gains are negligible at best anyways.

DDR2 to DDR3 is a no go.You cannot upgrade but you can always add more RAM.
Not compatible and as other members have posted performance gain is not that significant.
4GB's of RAM is more than enough for gaming and everyday applications.

    Honestly I'm running 4GB DDR3 and I can't tell any difference between my previous G50Vt with 4GB DDR2 memory.

Well they are negligable depending on the core system, i7 systems use it and have higher bus speeds so you cannot really compare the two platforms.

i7s use DDR3 1333, which is nearly double the bandwidth of DDR2 800.

We are talking about Core 2s that use 1066 DDR3 or 800 DDR2.
