OK so ... i by no means think this is a practicle solution for the W3J boot loop problem and i still believe the issue is somehow connected to powerplay and the catalyst drivers for the X1600 BUT ... interesting note here and i have no idea why this is ...

Everyone reading this who has a W3J at home that has the reboot loop issue, load some drivers that have the issue and give this a try see what happens.

When you have a VGA cable plugged into the VGA out and have drivers with the reboot loop (such as everything basically after 6.8 lol) it WILL boot normally. Ive tested this and with Catalyst 6.12 which DOES have the reboot loop afterall for me, and it is the case every time. If the VGA is plugged in, it boots normally while on battery, if the VGA is unplugged and i reboot, it goes into reboot loops .... Everyone give this a try ...

Now the next big question is, why does the W3J do this?

That's the first I'm hearing about that (well outside of the other new thread that this comment should have gone in)... surprising if you're saying that everyone is experiencing this..... this isn't while using the stock drivers or any asus sanctioned updates, is it? I ask this because I'd like to try to duplicate it. I'm using the newest Omega drivers built on the cat 6.9's and have no problem....

no this is using the downloaded catalyst 6.12 drivers off AMDs site.

Sorry if this should have been in another thread Justin but I didnt wana say its a solution, more a quirk.

Anyways, catalyst 6.12 with my W3J plugged into my Viewsonic LCD on battery ... the W3J being plugged into the LCD via the VGA made it boot normally on battery where as the loop would accure when the moniter was unplugged. I also have the latest BIOS for the W3J.

Good luck, tell me what u find.

also ... i am not ready to say this applies to everyone, simply myself. Thats why id like others to test and see if this happens for them as well...

Ok, first, I mean, I'm not going to say anything is really risky... I use the omegas because I know how to tweak them, but Asus will tell you right off that only their drivers are supported.... The reason being - things like this..... they test them and modify them to work. The best thing to do is actually to report it to them so they can find the issue and have their guys fix them......

The answer is simple, plugging VGA disables powerplay :D
The safe drivers are stock, 6.8, 6.10 in most cases, 6.12 there are mixed reports.
And disabling powerplay may help, but it's not recommended, it saves power.

And one more thing even on AC there is reboot possible (unless it's VGA plugged), with for example 6.9 when you change powerplay mode from top performance to max savings it will reboot.
