NBR does not seem to have any info on the HP, so here is a link to newegg's page for it, although I will be gettting it at BJ's for the same price with windows 7:

The HP is much cheaper and looks like it should be able to run games like cysis and fallout 3 at above 30fps.
The only thing that's leaning me towards the Asus is that it I can buy it from bestbuy and get one of their replacement plans that covers accidental damage.
Also, if anyone can tell me if the motherboards and bios of either of these would support a quad core upgrade (like an i7 for the Asus) further down the road, that might affect my decision.
I know that the asus has better performance, but higher enough than the HP's that it might last another year longer before I have to buy a new computer to play the latest games?

Link does not work.
Can't answer any thing on the HP.
G60VX(from BB) cannot support i7 core CPU's.
If it's anything like the old G51 from BB it cannot even support "regular" QUAD core CPU's.
Best CPU you can add to a G60VX is a T9900 or X9100. -
Check out these two links at notebookcheck.net and you will be able to better compare the two:

If you have the dough DEFINATELY get the ASUS. -
With the replacement plan on the Asus maxed out, there's gonna be about 600 dollars difference. I can afford it, but it's pretty significant considering my current work situation.
At some point, hopefully within the next year if I can find a steady job, I'll be building a desktop. The HP should be able to run Crysis, the most demanding game thus far, with most settings maxed out at a good framerate. Are there any games coming out within the next year that I'm going to need the extra power of the Asus for?
If I could rephrase the question, how future proof is the HP? I used the computer in my sig right up until it died 2 weeks ago and I could play Crysis and fallout 3 above the minimal settings at decent framerates (well Crysis framerate got bad inside the alien ship, it annoyed me more than it hindered my combat effectiveness)
Can I expect to get the same life out of the HP? -
Wow! you used the z81sp for that long! You should be able to survive with the HP for a couple of years.
Myself, I usually outgrow a system quickly, well before they die on their own. -
My primary concern in terms of gaming is framerate. I don't mind playing a game on low settings as long as it doesn't look like garbage, but if I'm getting a new computer I want something that can run Crysis on high settings at a good fps. Crysis and Fallout 3 don't look bad on low settings (I could actually turn the grass fade and actor fade all the way up on F3 withou suffering any noticable performance drop).
STALKER: Clear skies and Bioshock however, look like crap on low settings (and bioshock also runs like crap, I hate unreal engine 3). There are dx 7 games that look better than both of these games set on low.
With that said, I don't mind cutting costs on the HP as long as it will still be getting good FPS on the latest games 2-3 years from now. -
It's settled; I'm going for the HP. I've got too many expenses on my motorcycle to be burning on a 25% performance boost.
DV6-2144NR or Asus g60vx?
